  1. I may be mistaken, but I thought after the guy ran the first time, the cop chased him down and used (or attempted to use) his taser during the "tussle" or whatever. the guy ran away (for the second time) to get away from the taser, and that's when the cop shot him. I think you can see the cord from the taser in the cell phone video; apparently the taser didn't do it's job... from what I understand, the cop didn't really do anything wrong until he started firing shots (e.g., he didn't make racist remarks or even raise his voice while he was talking to the guy in the car, he didn't shoot him prior to chasing him down the first time, etc.). up until that point, the guy who got shot made a seemingly endless number of stupid decisions (e.g., the broken taillight, not having insurance/registration for the vehicle, having 3 years of unpaid child support totaling over $18k (resulting in a bench warrant for his arrest), fleeing the vehicle (presumably due to the arrest warrant), resisting arrest / "tussle"ing with a cop, fleeing a second time, etc.), all of which led to him getting shot. in response to randy savage, I am most certainly saying that he played a role in his own death. did he expect or deserve to die? no. but did his actions lead to his death? of course they did. if he doesn't run away from the car, he's sitting in a jail cell alive right now. if he doesn't "tussle" with the cop in the grass, he's sitting in a jail cell right now. unfortunately, he did do those things, and now he's dead. it's not 100% on him, but you can't honestly think that this is 100% on the cop, either, can you?
  2. do we know why the guy ran from his car and then ran again from the cop? running from the cops doesn't necessarily warrant getting shot, but (in light of recent events) it can certainly lead to getting shot... based on what I've seen, all I can say is that two people each made some bad decisions and now two families are paying the price. in related news, this is how you deal with asshole cops. be apologetic, be respectful, don't escalate the situation, don't run away, and don't fight for their taser. get their information and complain later. for best results, submit video to a news organization (particularly if you're non-white).
  3. I still dont get WHY would they put the supports for the walls on the outside???? structurally, that makes little sense to me my only thought on the supports is that it's more visually pleasing to the residents. honestly, I'm surprised they haven't painted murals on the walls
  4. if there's a "good" takeaway from that is that if you listen to the audio, the crowd goes pretty silent once he starts talking about rape and decapitation, so hopefully that's a sign that even his ~supporters were like "wtf?"
  5. did anyone else watch the cnn special tonight on atheism/atheists? I thought it was alright; nothing too exciting, but not bad. the highlight of the show was when one kid's parents said talking to their son was weird because it was like "talking to a dead person" I'm thankful for having parents that let me make jesus jokes at christmas... on a related subject, I wish cnn would have a series "[insert (non-)belief here] in america" while they're having that stupid "finding jesus" series. now that they've had an atheist episode, they could have an episode about muslims, one about buddhists, etc.
  6. the only positive I can see about taking your kids to church (if you're an atheist, that is) is that your kids won't have to answer questions like "why don't you go to church?" at a young age (if only so that I don't have other parents calling me up asking why little billy told their child that there is no god and, more importantly, no santa). aside from that, just read them books (or watch shows, tell stories, etc.) that help teach morals. maybe I'm weird, but I don't get the point of ~atheist churches. it's perfectly fine to want a sense of community, but aside from not believing in a god, I'm not sure what I'd necessarily have in common with other atheists (aside from "support groups" for help coming out to your family). why should I care what a "minister" has to say? it's not like the flying spaghetti monster wrote a "how-to" book on being the perfect atheist and this person has studied it religiously. oh, and I love when religious people ask how you have/learn morals if you're an atheist. it's called "common sense"
  7. "atheist" is much easier to say/spell than "irreligious". other than that, irreligious just seems like a more general term
  8. I think I saw this commercial on CNN the other day... they do have an "atheist" special coming up on tuesday night (not sure why, but oh well), so maybe airing this is ~part of that?
  9. fwiw, I'm sort of going through a similar situation, except that the guy who seemed gung-ho on hiring me was essentially the guy who would hire me, but oh well. hope it works out for both of us. anyhoo... what else is going on on your end? like, do you super need to hear back *now*, or are you just afraid that something bad has happened? if you've already emailed asking what the status is, I think you should probably lay low for a bit and wait it out. in my situation, I'm afraid of acting like "high school me", always asking the same girl on a date (and always being ~ignored). I haven't heard back in over a month now, but I'm done asking. that said, I know that they haven't hired anyone because they tend to post their interviews online (it's at a university and candidates have to give a seminar) but yeah, good luck!
  10. it's been a while since I listened to them back-to-back, but I had the US version first and was underwhelmed by it. the EU one, however, sounds great
  11. I mentioned something along these lines in the other propagandhi thread. if this came out ~2 years ago, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. but now? I think I'm fine with my US and EU 2xLP pressings
  12. supporting caste (on purple) is up http://kingsroadmerch.com/propagandhi/ supporting caste repress is a single LP...? even if they drop "come to the sabbat", it seems like they'd really need to squeeze it all on there...
  13. the OP could just put ~"I wish someone would press [name of new album]" in the title and, tada!, it's related to vinyl
  14. just to refresh my memory, these are the variants of this: - red (canada/tour exclusive) - blue (us ~exclusive) - opaque orange (euro exclusive) - black - transparent orange (the new one) right? I never got around to picking up the black, but I might consider buying the new orange (though I did tell myself to stop buying variants...)

  16. it was the worst outcome for gordon, but I think it was one of the better outcomes for the race. logano had a strong car all day, and he was in front down the stretch. I feel like the "worst" possible outcome would have been someone who didn't deserve to win getting up front due to a crash-fest and then automatically qualifying for the chase oh, and I feel like nascar is a great sport to watch if you don't have anyone in particular to cheer for. get in a fantasy league and pick a bunch of different drivers each week. unlike other sports, there's only one "game" to watch each week and all of the drivers are involved.
  17. nasty wreck for kyle busch in the xfinity race... http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/kyle-busch-injured-in-xfinity-series-crash-as-daytona-carnage-continues-022115
  18. guess I'm not going to want kurt busch on my fantasy team this week http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/12355143/nascar-driver-kurt-busch-suspended-indefinitely
  19. if you're looking for "suffer" on orange, I have "suffer" on orange... I also have "against the grain" on yellow if you're interested in that (the marble yellow from 2009, not the one from last year (which I think is clear yellow...?))
  20. I haven't really enjoyed born villain when I've tried listening to it, but it bothers me that that's the only album I don't have... so I'll cave. camelcamelcamel says this is the lowest it's been on amazon, but hottopic.com seems to say it was once only $0.98
  21. totally this... I always wanted a manson shirt in high school and college, but I'm not going to walk around with manson's face on my chest
  22. for what it's worth, when I tried to track my order from nin.com, the link sent me to UPS, but the tracking code was actually USPS. now if only USPS shipping from CA to GA was a little faster...
  23. just got my shipping confirmation from nin.com. hopefully the $7.99 ground shipping isn't painfully slow...
