I figured this one out.
When they press split colored vinyl, they first make them into someting that looks like a hockey puck, before it gets pressed and molded into the 7" shape.
If you throw it in the machine upside down, the color array will be upside down too, since the labels and plates are still in the same position.
Check this video for the hockey pucks and how it gets pressed to a record.
