  1. Is there anything Yu doesn't know?
  2. Was "Deliver Us" repressed with the correct album name on the spine? The first press had "Undoing Ruin" on there.
  3. Never heard this band, but Barn Owl is pretty awesome though. Wow Owls was great too, although I think that's one of the worst names ever for a band, especially such a rad band. Any other owl variant names out there?
  4. It's a good thing I only buy black vinyl (if it's an option) or I'd be screwed.
  5. I was at a Lifetime show in Philly and Wayne Kramer (MC5) was opening. It sucked so hard, but of course there's always an idiot or two. This dude gets on stage right at the end of a song and runs across the stage, then leaps into the crowd, arms and legs spread wide. I was in the very back of the room, so I couldn't see anything but him jumping. Then the music stops and I just hear this *thud* and see people just kind of looking in his direction. Some bouncers go jogging to the front, and a few minutes later they carry this totally unconscious, limp dumbass out. It was so surreal and funny.
  6. Andy, the owner of Albums on the Hill is a good friend of mine. He's a solid dude who has done everything possible for music, not just his own store. He's fighting to survive because he believes in the concept of a record store. And even though he's not exactly young (I'm going to guess close to 60) he knows a lot about both old and contemporary music. It's uncanny. So shop there when you can.
  7. Also, H2O at the Troc in Philly right after their first record came out was one of the funnest things that's ever happened to me. Just a great hardcore show with no fights and tons of fun.
  8. There's Albums On The Hill in Boulder, the new Bart's, which I've heard is getting better all the time, and this other place I just found on North Broadway where I spent $180 the first time I went there. But those stores mentioned earlier in the thread are quite good. It's a shame: Denver used to have SO MANY record stores. Double Entendre was rad. Wax Trax used to be awesome. Twist and Shout was super good back then and Black and Read was really a great place. Wax Trax in Boulder and Bart's were so good too. Time marches on though.
  9. Dude, I saw one running across a road the other night. That bitch was so fast. Then it looked at me (well, toward me) and it's eyes were all green and scary. I'm pretty much terrified that it was a couple blocks from my house.
  10. I do need shirts and hats. But it's hard to compete with the locals dudes since shipping is so much. Still, I'd love to see what you can do. and thanks
  11. Next year hopefully. I don't know enough about it to make that move without hiring someone to run that part of the shop, and I need to make a little dough before I can hire anyone. The weird part is snowboard orders for next year are pretty much due now, so I'm not sure how to handle that. We'll see.
  12. I don't have one, but I do know everybody in the music biz so if you need some help let me know. I know of at least a half dozen labels that have a note under my name in the computer that says something to the effect of "give him whatever he wants." A word of advice to anyone who is going into music journalism: it's a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. But that's the same for everyone in the biz including publicists, bands, etc. SO, don't ever abuse your position. You can get a lot of cool things for free (I have never payed to get into a show as far back as I can remember, or for music other than vinyl). But giving all your friends music, getting them into shows for no good reason, getting more credentials than you need to do your job just to look cool -- all that gay shit -- is just lame. I'm not saying it will ruin your career, but people will hate you and that's just not a good situation. Take what you do seriously, be a professional and it will pay off I promise.
  13. Have you seen the H20/Toby Morse skateboard that Real is selling? It's awesome.
  14. I used to love 7"s. They were the Internet of the old days. You could buy a 7" for like $3-$4 and find out if you liked a band before buying their records. v
  15. I have about 2,000. It's hard to tell because a bunch are at my parent's house and my dad's not about to catalog my records for me. I have to find a way to get them to Denver from Delaware. Mailing like 10 boxes or records would not be cost effective.
  16. Servo, I live here and I have a really nice bottle of tequila I bought for a friend before I found out he quit drinking.
  17. Wow, I couldn't agree more with a lot of this. I'm super happy to see Eddie Van Halen at #3. His guitar sound on "Mean Streets" and pretty much all of Women and Children First and Fair Warning is without comparison. Looks like they actually put in the time to make this story fair. You can't expect them to get bands like Jawbox in there, but that would have been nice. J's sound on For Your Own... and the outtakes from that record is just awesome.
  18. So I retired as a journalist. Please read my final reviews in the next issue of Alternative Press (Darkest Hour and The Skull Defekts) and my final features in the next issue of ALARM (XBXRX and Nathan Bell). Now I'm opening a skate shop called System Skateboarding. We'll be open in February. If you live in Colorado please come by and say hello. Our website is www.systemskateboarding.com. You can also "like" us on Facebook from there. Here's (hopefully) our first team rider, Al Brunelle skating the Lafayette, CO skatepark. That piece of granite is about an inch wider than a skateboard. Anyway, check it all out and thanks to everyone who supported me in my old career. O
  19. I have it but the DL code only had like three songs. That kind of bummed me out. But yeah, it's rad. AS could release an LP of Sgt. Hatred reading poetry and I'd buy it. I love the show that much. BTW, I have a couple promo DVDs of a few shows from the past two seasons if anyone is interested in that kind of thing. They are exactly the same as the shows that aired as far as I can tell, but still a pretty cool collector's item I think.
