Modern Baseball - Holy Ghost (and new 6-song EP)
plasma36 replied to marc32137's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
The Perfect Cast didn't do much for me but I snagged a ticket/record package. Funny thing is I liked Jake's song on TPC the best, but I like Bren's of the new two better. Excited for the album, excited for the show since I haven't seen them in almost two years and I've never seen Joyce Manor. -
The "rock" songs on here are okay but the ones that are just vocals and drum machine sound really out of place and aren't good on their own merit. Three of those types of songs that don't go anywhere for two minutes plus the second to last song that's just one guitar and vocals run through a fake lo-fi filter leaves seven songs that would have made for a passable mini-LP. I like "Thorn in the Side" a lot, but the album takes a steep decline in the second half. I feel like Somos was shooting for the "mature pop punk album" but I don't think they've built up a strong enough fan base to stick with them for something like that.

The Vinyl Deals Thread (non-Amazon)
plasma36 replied to itsgoodtobefree's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Some really good records in that GH selection but I can't afford to get anything after my Music Direct order. Ones of note: David Byrne & St. Vincent for $11, new Sleater-Kinney for a little under $11, the most recent two Deerhoof albums (Breakup Song and La Isla Bonita) for $7 each, Fucked Up's "David Comes to Life" for a little under $10. -

The Vinyl Deals Thread (non-Amazon)
plasma36 replied to itsgoodtobefree's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Just a heads up, that Music Direct code works for preorders but preorders aren't eligible for free shipping. Only thing I've found besides clearance items that the code doesn't work for is the new Porches album, which is annoying. -
Say Anything - I Don't Think It Is

Never really been into Say Anything but listening to this on a whim and I like it. Songwriting and production clears up a lot after that first song. -
Full of Hell / The Body Collab

New song is sick, definitely gonna pick it up whenever I see either of those bands next. -
I only got Maruta, Grin and Bear It/MDFL, Scab Addict/Castration Rite, Mellow Harsher, and Gowl because I already have a bunch of those records. Water damaged or not, one record I cannot recommend enough is the Grin and Bear It EP. Blurs the lines between fast hardcore and powerviolence blah blah blah. At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command Repress
plasma36 replied to snarfsnarf's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'm not saying that as an ATDI snob or anything, it's just that I haven't really liked anything Omar and Cedric have done together in the past ten-ish years so I'm not expecting a new ATDI album to change that. -
At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command Repress

I'm having a real hard time imagining a 2016 ATDI album being anything more than merely "listenable" -
what's the most you've ever spent on a record?
plasma36 replied to a topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
This thread just reminds me of all the times I passed on a record only for it to quickly skyrocket in price. I remember seeing "Demon Days" at my local shop for $15.99 and thinking it was cool that a new album was out on vinyl but I didn't buy it because I already spent that much on a CD copy and I was 12 years old. Also remember seeing "Exmilitary" up for sale but not wanting to pay $20 plus shipping for it. Womp womp. Even at the height of my record collecting mania I couldn't bring myself to pay $50 for one album, and now that I've become a bit disillusioned by the record game I can't even imagine spending that much on something as silly as a slab of wax. I did pay $40 for a signed copy of Andrew W.K.'s "I Get Wet" before the repress, and I can't find the receipt for it but the +HIRS+ "Madonna" 3" cost me upwards of $30 for about 90 seconds of music. -
I'm in an apartment building with three units and USPS has a key to get in and drop packages off. I can understand the ipod (assuming it was labeled in a way that made it seem valuable) but I can't imagine why either of my neighbors would care about a package with two shitty powerviolence records in it.

Kat Kat Records Going Out Of Business Sale

Everyone should get that Greek Faves album. Big ol dummies decided to stop being a band for no good reason right after it came out. -
USPS Rates Increasing Jan. 17, 2016
plasma36 replied to thebilljim's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Might as well stop selling internationally on Discogs now. As is I'll get messages from people asking how much it'll cost to ship a record, I'll tell them the absurd number (last one was $27 for a double lp), then they don't respond. -
City Of Caterpillar - ST getting a repress in 2016
plasma36 replied to thebilljim's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Euro screamo is in general the best screamo imo. Too many American bands spend more time falling over each other than actually writing cohesive songs and playing them properly. Also, Daitro and Raein in particular are really good at creating dynamic shifts that aren't just "here's the loud part then there's the part where we turn our distortion pedals off then we get loud again."
