  1. i can't speak for any other ones, but this one is huge. it used to be called the worlds biggest (although i don't know if that was actually true) when it was in a big events center. good news is next year it will be back at that place. and the one here happens twice a year and the spring show is during sxsw. but it is mostly stores from around the country that come and buy tables to sell stuff. i'd say almost all of it is older stuff, so if you're only interested in indie/punk records you will only find a few sellers there for that. over the past few months i've been working on buying a lot of 60s,70s & 80s stuff i've had on my to buy list. so i should be able to do a lot of that. but my favorite time ever was the one 10 years ago, i walked up to the door with $20, paid $5 to get in. then found a seller with jimmy eat world's "clarity" for $10 (this is before big wheel rec went under and the record went out of print). and some other guy had a box of rage against the machine's "evil empire" he was just trying to get rid of so he gave me one for $4. i got both of those and still had $1 left, pretty good day. then a few years ago kinda like the rage lp this guy had no doubt's "return to saturn" for $8. hopefully i'll get lucky like that again this time.
  2. i have a feeling that anyone in the area might already know about this but i thought i would post it anyway with it only being 2 weeks away. and i haven't been to this in 5 years i think so i'm looking forward to going now that i'm buying records again. http://www.austinrecords.com/ Fall 2010 Show: October 15/16/17 (Fri/Sat/Sun) North Austin Event Center = formerly the Crockett Center Regular Admission: $5, good for both days Saturday 10am - 6pm Sunday 10am - 5pm Early Shopper Admission: $25, good for all three days Friday, 10am - 6pm Saturday 8am - 6pm Sunday 10am - 5pm
  3. awesome album, i think it was in my top 25 of the decade........ but still probably my least favorite of the three. i'm trying to think of a way to say that and it not sound negative. i still listen to all 3 of those on a regular basis and none of them have lost their charm.
  4. i'm just picturing Gob unsuccessfully trying to drive it over the mound of dirt. so good.
  5. rilo kiley - take offs and landings burning airlines - mission control burning airlines - idendikit jimmy eat world - singles (or just a new non-album compilation) the anniversary - devil on our side
  6. man, i had an issue with MOS at funfunfun a couple of years ago. they were playing and some other, much better band was playing. my girlfriend at the time wanted to watch MOS and i wanted to go to the black stage. she said i owed her a MOS show. thank god we're not together anymore. i think i got out of going. she told me last night her friend would buy my ticket. funny thing is there's one song i've thought was kinda good (probably because it's catchy and sounds like it has a guitar in it), and it ended up being used in 2 different commercials later on.
  7. i got my tickets when the wife bought hers for mates of state the night before that. i'm going to want to have a good time after having to deal with that night.
  8. exactly. i tried breaking the news to my dad that ebay has made so many of his records lose their value because people don't have to get lucky at a local store anymore. you can just buy them online from anyone in the world. i even bet i could walk out of the austin record convention next month with all the beatles lps that are early editions in great condition for under $300 because so many different people will be selling the same room that day. sure there are exceptions and rare variants but the normal ones won't go for too much.
  9. Something along the lines of this: 11. Devotion 12. You Gave Your Love to Me Softly 13. Waiting on You 14. I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams i wasn't going to do it because i already have it on vinyl and didn't care so much for the demo and outtakes. but damn. that is why i'm doing it now.
  10. well i know i never got around to buying the first alone album on vinyl, but hopefully the 2nd one will get pressed and the future ones after that will too if he keeps adding black hole songs on them.
  11. the refs really bent arsenal over and gave it to them and cost them a win. both of the cards that song got were bullshit. and no card at all when wilshire got taken down right outside the box. let's hope for the super miracle of blackpool beating chelsea.
  12. yeah i got them at backspin. it was fun looking through the cheaper section for older stuff because of not buying any records between 2004-last spring to focus on building my huge cd collection (that i have since sold all of them), i feel like i missed out on a lot of buying opportunities. it was great walking out with 20 records for under $50.
  13. hey, another austinite!! Welcome. i feel the same. we have so many too chose from depending on your taste in music. I am going to breakaway now for old stuff. that places rules. i haven't been to breakaway in while, i may have to stop by there soon. i've been going to backspin a lot for older stuff. next weekend i've got a bunch of people coming over for a party and i wanted to get a lot of the 70's & 80's stuff i think would be fun to play. so i bought a bunch in their discount section (which gets bigger every time i go) and those are 5 for $10. got almost all the peter gabriel, cars, cheap trick and ac/dc i've been wanting. actually ran out of time last night because i had to pick up the wife from work so i'm probably going to sneak a trip over there again today because i only got to look at half the stuff i wanted to.
  14. great news about the store. when it's open i'll check it out the next time i go to houston to visit family.
  15. i also watched it when it was streaming a few months ago. i enjoyed it, but after it was over it made me feel a little spoiled with all the great stores i have to choose from in austin.
  16. http://shop.ebay.com/filmthreat82/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 most of these are at least 10 years old and still in good condition. i'm getting rid of the 7"s that i have on compilation lp's or are singles off of full lengths. and i guess since i'm not really collecting anymore i'm fine with getting rid of them. none of of them have been played in years probably. like if i wanted to hear "the breathing method" by the get up kids i'd just put on eudora. but i figured some of the collectors on here would be interested. some have price stickers on them, i made sure to grade the vinyl and covers the best i could. and marked the ones that have the stickers on them. 17. i've gotta move in a few weeks and last year when i did it i found these boxes from a box store that are made just for records. i think they're 12 3/4 x 12 3/4 and they worked fine. last time i let the movers take them but got scared when i saw them trying to carry them on their shoulder while using the other arm to carry something else heavy. these guys were awesome and worked fast but it still just scared me if he dropped them they could go down the stairs. that being said i might just tough it out and bring them myself this time. but that's all i'm doing myself because with it being nearly 100 degrees in austin lately and trying to take all my furniture and other crap down 3 flights of stairs would kill me. definitely worth the $400 for movers.
  18. Ramsay! Or Van Persie or for a bit of fun Eboue! like ramsay is going to play at all this season after shattering his ankle earlier this year. and van persie will miss at least 20 games, because well he's robin van persie who can't stay healthy. and i'm sure that won't change this season because he's probably exhausted since he hasn't had a break because of the world cup.
  19. what is actually on the 7"? because i have the other 3 that were released.
  20. hiphopopotamus, business time and if you're into it. but if you've only seen the show look up the song "jenny". they did it on their hbo special years before the show.
  21. i'm the same way, i've been mostly going to waterloo for new stuff i know that only they would get. like last week i went there because i thought they might be the only ones who got the reflection eternal album. but over the years end of an ear has become my favorite. i loved those guys when they owned 33 degrees on guadalupe a while back. do you ever go to backspin on airport blvd near 35? every time i look at their recent used stuff they have a lot of older records for a good price.
  22. even though it looks like my fabregas jersey will safe for another year, i want to get a new one but don't know who to get? who would you get? van persie will be hurt half the season as usual so that makes me not want to get him. the other ones i was thinking of were: varmaelen, song, arshavin or maybe walcott. part of me wants to take the chance and get chamakh because i think he's going to be good. or did you hear arsene is trying to get this guy remy they are calling one of the best french scorers since henry was in his prime. if that deal goes through that one would be tempting.
  23. yeah i used to see them go for a lot more than that. guess when it got repressed i may have gone down in value to the average buyer who just wants any copy. maybe i shouldn't keep saying it was one of my best deals ever on ebay.
