Bumping because I just saw these guys play and they fucking killed it. The guitars sounded just as warm and rich on the album. I heard through the grapevine that Travis pressed this personally. He played the album through a discman into a Nokia phone and recorded it with Skype. While I love video game soundtracks I think the best way to press titles that will move is to compile "Best Of's" from popular franchises. For example I certainly wouldn't buy the soundtrack to any Resident Evil game, but I would buy a greatest tracks compilation. I liked them so much better when they were The Syncope Threshold, it sounded like a blend of the best parts of Coheed & Cambria and Protest the Hero. This just sounds like a mediocre Protest the Hero knockoff.

You just reminded me of when they toured with Between the Buried & Me in 2005. BTBAM had finished Alaska but it wasn't out yet. Mastodon was about to head into the studio to record their follow up to Leviathan. Fast forward to the release of "Blood Mountain." I don't remember what part of what song but it sounded eerily similar to the intro of Selkies. Anyway that's my version of what happened.

I dug "First Temple" but haven't listened to Pink Lemonade yet. But I predicted that they would go the same route as Foxy Shazam and get worse as the focus shifted from the band to the singer.

They don't make games I like anymore. All my favorite franchises are dead and buried (Megaman, Castlevania, Resident Evil). But this game made me shit my pants.
