  1. What's the audible difference between the OM 5E and the 2M Red? Anybody have first had experience with both cartridges?
  2. Supporting for multiple reasons. Love to win one of the albums, plus I get a 7", plus it's beard related, plus it's for a good cause.
  3. Yeah, but they'll ship it anywhere in Australia for $0.99! Totally offsets the cost! Just kidding.
  4. As I Lay Dying has at times been described in the media as a Christian group, but Lambesis said this year in an interview with heavy metal website Noisecreep that group members wanted "to be judged on the music" rather than their "personal beliefs."
  5. So, this doesn't have to turn into a revisited thread, but I thought some of us might be curious what the weakest link in our system is. If nothing else, I'm curious what the weakest part of my system is. I know that "good sound" is different to everyone, but I'd love opinions from all schools of thought. Here's what I've got: Turntable Pro-Ject Debut III w/ Ortofon OM 5E Pro-Ject Speed Box II Pro-Ject Phono II Receiver Pioneer SX-727 (Picture) Speakers Cerwin Vega VS-120's (Picture) Niether of those pictures are of my equipment, but all of my stuff is in great condition. I just had the Pioneer serviced so it's in great shape. Curious where you guys would start the upgrade process. Thanks for all the input. Let the arguments commence.
  6. Stoked for you bud! That's awesome! What'd you get on your final thesis / project / study thing?
  7. The Bon Iver 12" singles I have sound incredible. There's no way they could've fit "I Can't Make You Love Me" on a 7" and kept the audio quality. The song is just too long, even at 33rpm. I've got some great sounding 7" too, I just prefer the look of a 12" single and I don't mind paying a few dollars more for it.
  8. That's awesome dude! I'm excited for you! I remember how stoked I was when I got mine. You've officially taken the next step: investing money into a proper setup so you can truly enjoy your records. Once you start upgrading though, it never seems to stop. Just warning you!
  9. I just feel like the 12" single looks and sounds better than a traditional 7". I think it's probably me being anal about how my record storage area looks, but I love the idea of a 12" single with a full page insert. Just curious what others opinions were.
  10. Do we have word on when this is shipping? I know they were shooting for Friday, just wondered if anyone received tracking info yet.
  11. Exactly my point. Not saying you have to agree with everything I've said so far, but this is what I mean. It's worth it to you, and that's what matters.
  12. Obviously Apple was well known. I was saying when the iPhone came out, it wasn't a known commodity. Because of Apple's track record, people were stoked to jump on board with Steve-O. Again, I agree with everybody here... people take advantage of Kickstarter. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying that the rewards are worth what you deem them to be worth. If you're a huge fan, you'll totally put down the money to help fund something. If you're not, then you scoff at it and talk about how dumb everyone is that's throwing away their money. I would consider Kickstarter "micro-investing." Nobody said that investment means a monetary return. It's putting money into something and getting a worthwhile return. For some that may be money, for others it may be a chance to hang with a dude for 30 minutes and share a beer. That definition is different for everybody because what may be worthwhile to you, isn't worthwhile to someone else. I think you're assuming that crowdfunding is meant to give YOU something, when in reality it's not about backer. It's about the musician, artist, or movie maker who is looking for support for their specific artform. Either you want to help with that, or you don't. For the record, I've been shafted by Kickstarters myself. It sucks. I'm not happy about it, and I won't support that persons project again, but that doesn't mean that I'm against the whole idea of crowdfunding. It raised $2.1 billion dollars last year. I think it's made a LOT of things possible that otherwise would've never happened.
  13. Before the iPhone was invented, it wasn't an already known and successful business. Zach stated that he wanted the money to do things 100% his way. I completely understand that you feel like the "cheap prizes" are a rip off. Totally get that. This is the beauty of Kickstarter. Who says that something is worth the money they're pledging? I can tell you for a fact that I'd drop $100 on a 5 minute phone call with David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), or a special limited edition piece of merch. I'd absolutely spend $1000 to go into the studio and record a track with Bazan that will be on his next record. That's a once in a lifetime experience to me that I would never forget. When it's something that you love and believe in, you actually WANT to help the person out, regardless if they've got the money to do it or not. Maybe the film sucks. Maybe it's a box office failure, but the people who invested in it still receive something that is special to them. If they didn't feel like it wasn't special, they wouldn't have pledged the money. Bottom line, I agree with you to an extent. Some of the "prizes" are retarded to me and I wouldn't pay that much for them. There are a ton of Kickstarter deals that are like this. I don't see the point / value in it, but somebody does. You can call it greed if you want. I simply see it as a way to fund his film by involving enthusiastic fans who see the value in what he is offering.
  14. I never understood why people criticize actors or musicians or inventors who ask for help funding their project. When the iPhone came out, do you think Steve Jobs paid for everything out of pocket? No way. He got investors involved. Almost everybody uses investors when they look to fund a business idea. Kickstarter is the same exact thing as reaching out to said investors, it just uses fan who already want to see the business succeed. I just don't stand why people get bent out of shape about it. That being said, his video was pretty funny. I won't be investing, but I'll see the movie when it comes out.
  15. This might be a silly question, but are there any "authentic" charger cables that are longer than 3'?
  16. Thanks dude! That really means a lot! I was really pleased with how everything came out and I hope that people have been enjoying the record and the lyrics. Walking With A Stranger, Where We Used To Be, and Grand Coulee Band all tied for the most request lyrics.
  17. I've got: Rocky Votolato - A Brief History (10") Is that something you'd be interested in as well?
  18. Does Lou know you have these lyrics tattooed on you? Surprised to find another Gasoline Heart fan. I really want to press "You Know Who You Are" but I just don't know if there'd be 300 people who would buy it.
  19. I appreciate the input from anyone. Right now I've received 40 votes on the poll. If there's any way I could get 10 more, I'll call it a day and leave you guys alone. Thanks again for the help!
  20. Would any of you guys want to expound upon why you collect records the way you do? Is it the for the hunt of the record? Is it because you simply love collecting? Or do you simply enjoy supporting the artist? I'd love to be able to quote "music enthusiasts with years of knowledge within the vinyl industry." I'm not allowed to use my own opinions, but if any of you cared to share yours, I'd be very grateful.
  21. Dude... it's pretty legit. Before I started going to Full Sail University (Orlando, FL) I heard a TON of terrible things about the school. I had a feeling a lot of those negative reviews came from students who didn't care enough to actually try, and subsequently ended up failing out because of grades or attendance. After being here for 14 months, I can absolutely say that is the case. There is a ton of great information and opportunities here (and there are a few classes that seem pointless, but every college has classes like that). It's one of those, "what you put in is what you get out" kind of schools. I busted my butt and tried to make a name for myself here. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do my final project on something that I love and care about. It totally makes the homework feel less like homework, and more like real life.
  22. Hey guys, I'm writing up a feasibility for an independent record label as my final project for college. One of the areas that I don't have hard evidence for is how many people are variant collectors (i.e. why offer multiple variants) and why certain consumers are variants collectors. I'd love your opinions and for you to participate in the poll. Thanks for the help!
  23. Let's be honest, NOTHING will put an end to beginner's threads. However, whenever one does pop up, we'll be able to direct them here. I wish we could make this be the Vinyl Collective Terms of Service. In order to post, you have to read through this thread and take a quiz. Not really. But kind of really.
