Sidney Crosley
It's downright frightening. http://pitchfork.com/features/article/9871-how-to-buy-the-best-turntable-and-stereo-system-for-your-record-collection/ Edit: I looked at it again just now after having seen it about 2 hours ago. I am pretty certain when I first saw it, their basic table was the LP60, and they were talking about its simplicity of use. Now they've replaced that entry with one about the LP120. I'm pretty sure that was the case. Or I need more sleep.
Tardcore
the whole article seems poorly conceived.
ajxd
I hate this. Though I was half hoping they had ripped off our list.
kannibal
I haven't read it, but I really hope it's satire.
Halo 2
Wait what's wrong with the LP120, I know plenty of people who started with that.
Tardcore
Wait what's wrong with the LP120, I know plenty of people who started with that. LP120 is basically $90 away from a Debut Carbon DC (which didn't even make the list).
Halo 2
LP120 is basically $90 away from a Debut Carbon DC (which didn't even make the list). The Carbon was my first table (a great one) but most people getting into vinyl & reading Pitchfork have lower budgets when they're first getting into it. It's not unfathomable to see it as their "basic" recommendation. At least they didn't reccomend a crosley lol vinyl addict
just a normal guy kevin
No mention of only handling/listening to records in a sterile laboratory setting? Nothing about surfactants? How can they expect any beginner to benefit from their article? andynz and SandwichRecords
SandwichRecords
I thought it was a fairly decent run down for someone just starting out. What's so frightening about it? Halo 2

Tardcore
The speaker recommendations are particularly bad. receiver/amp list is pretty nonsensical too agaetisbyrjun
bjorn
I helped a student set up an LP120 once. I didn't get a chance to hear it but it seemed like a thoroughly capable turntable. For the price I think it's worth considering, though I'd probably lean toward a Uturn. That article is whack though.
ajxd
God I just read the "Weights" section. What an absolute ignorant person. "I wanted the heaviest weight" oh ok. swemoll
Professor Finn
Yeah that list sucked, I would have said the LP60 instead of the Numark (that thing sucks ass), and the U-Turn Orbit instead of the LP120... among everything else about that list. circuit bored records
I like how it jumps from a $400 bluetooth speaker to $2100 Magnepans.. Surely there's nothing in between those that could be recommended to a beginner
floyd_z
Well it is pitchfork so of course it's going to be shit.
