geezfools
Just wondering if it's common to try to go after comps as well as the regular releases and splits. Obviously a little tougher and more expensive, but not really sure if it's worth it, especially if it's not especially common to pick them up, just for one song. jhulud
Depending on the band and how hardcore into them I am, I will pursue to get everything they have recorded including variants and comps.

cadetapplesauce
i wouldn't worry too much about it if it was released previously on a 7" or from a full length.. if it was exclusive to the comp, then yeah. even if it has been released on a b-sides type album (ie. 17 Reasons 3x7" boxset w/ Jawbreaker's Kiss The Bottle on it)
suburbanargyle
Yeah, if a song was exclusive to the comp. And if it contains other stuff I like, for example the new Johnny Cash tribute.
captainmorgan
Yeah, I try to get comps, too. If it's an exclusive track, you don't really have a discography unless you've got it!
geezfools
okay, figured as much, thanks guys! There goes even more money
Guest genericinsight
I was about to post a similar thread to this last week but opted not to.
Guest genericinsight
okay, figured as much, thanks guys! There goes even more money You don't NEED to go after comps just because other people do it for their collection purposes. Same way you don't need to go after test presses either. I don't go for comps or test presses at all. Sheesh.
geezfools
I was planning on going for it before i posted the thread. Just a general statement, nothing here has changed my mind. I won't be going after test presses either though, sure, if I found one and the price is right, sure, but not really going out of my way for anything... Snaggle Von Swift
depends on how much i'm into the band.
xfedaykinx
im still trying to figure out if im going to pick up all four colors of the johnny cash tribute record just for the sake of my gaslight collection, or if one copy is enough. not much time left to decide. geezfools
yeah, kind of wondering the same thing, I'm thinking later this week or next week those should go up, hope at least, sick of checking multiple times a day for the info, lol
timpopkid
If it's a 7" comp, yes - If it's a 12" comp, only occasionally. I have no real good reason as to why I am mor einclined to buy 7" comps, but I am.
Duff
theres only a few bands that i will buy a comp for and luckily those bands arent on too many of them.
heavyheavylowlow
Don't listen to any bands that have appeared on a vinyl comp. As for CD comps I've only ever bought one, because the song was specially recorded for the comp.
thetruebeliever
i dont particularly "get" doods that "collect" a particular band. varients, comps, splits, yada yada. if this is your thing then sweet, im not having a dig....but if i like a release i generally just go for the ONE most limited colour i can get at the time and leave it at that. vinyl still makes me just as happy. vinylme
it really depends on the band that im trying to complete a collection of. Important ones I get everything and less important ones splits and even less important ones band releases only. I will also buy comps if the music is good. hickey
I now officially only collect Screeching Weasel. I have all of the comps (except for a couple of the fat wreck comps that are cheap and easy to come by that I have been putting off picking up).
