Damn. There is literally an entire side dedicated to only two of their shortest (not to mention fucking BEST) songs. Spinning this set is gonna be all about the exercise...

Maybe I'll just set my automatic table to repeat that side once or twice since the tracks are so short but so fucking good.

Two of my favorites too. Payday Loans is what got me into them. I get why it isn’t on there but wish Touched for the Very First Time was included on that side.

Yeah, I feel like unless there was something explicitly contractual or cost-prohibitive about including that track, it really should have been on here. Its just a collaboration. No one ever said you couldn't have guests on your retrospective compilation album. Maybe there will be another vinyl reissue of Like A Virgin. That would be awesome. Glad I got the Mind Over Matter press but more editions of that are more than welcome.

But man, I've always said there is just something about their non-album b-sides and split contributions that just feels like they are hitting at a different but very welcome new angle. I don't know what it is but it is great to have a single release with a bunch of my favorite songs by them which were previously completely spread out on various 7" and 12" releases. Of course I have all of those releases but its cool to have them all in one set. "Payday Loans" is lyrically so fucking poignant and just absolutely assaults the listener with class-conscious vitriol. Actually "Hook On This" is the track that really drew me to the Like A Virgin split but I have since come to see "Payday Loans" as just as essential an offering. Like it was never bad at all. It was always killer but it finally reached a point where it was at least equally necessary to "Hook On This" for me. The ranting at the end of the former track is everything.

It'll be nice to have newly mastered versions of the Russian Circles split tracks as well especially since that physical release was plagued by the toxic, vinyl-destroying PVC sleeves.

Brian Cook responded to a comment on instagram on his post about this release wherein the person pleaded for reissues of the three full length LP's and he claimed they were "supposedly in the works..."

Reason enough to hope for me.

Official TAAS instagram just posted a live pic of Steve crowd surfing with a caption that includes a promise of "more news and music" incoming.

Looks like they're building us up for something that's close on the horizon. Can't wait to find out.

That photo was taken at their "last" Seattle shows.

Yeah... "last" ::winkwink::

I really do want to see them again but I honestly feel most excited about the prospect of a new LP and then secondly, the prospect of reissues and then third getting to see them live again.

Seeing TAAS as much as I could before they split (not that I knew the split was coming) encapsulates some of my finest memories and most enjoyable experiences doing one of the main things I loved doing most which is going to shows for bands that are not mainstream in small ass clubs and just raging with them so I absolutely welcome more tours from them but I'm more in a lasting artifact in the form of physical releases mode right now as far as my enthusiasm for a band "returning" is concerned. Still hope to hell they tour again but my priority is their physical media.

Killer find. Really crazy because I never knew about that page until right now when you posted this link and last night is the first night I discovered that multicam live video of the night 2 show from last August that it looks like Brian just posted last night seen in the previous post.

That's really awesome news though. I hope that time table is achieved.

Brian’s tumblr is a great source for news related to his projects thru that AMA. The write-ups about his record collection is fun too.

Hmmm. Tempted to double up but might just wait for the other two and (hopefully) EP. This one is definitely my least favorite.

I don't blame you.  I know McPherson was intrigued by the idea, but there is no indication that this is remastered or anything.  I think it's great for folks who don't own the record, but probably not necessary for longtime fans... unless you're a TAAS completist or something.

Yeah, it says reissue but I'm not totally certain that this is actually part of what they were talking about recently regarding reissues of the entire catalog. Who knows. I imagined the LP's would all be put up at the same time from one source but that's not grounded in any actual knowledge of the situation. I know the first two were put out on Jade Tree initially for the CD release and Second Nature did the vinyl. I wasn't following them when those albums were first put out so I don't know how close the CD/Vinyl releases were to each other but I've always assumed they were concurrent.

The 2016 reissue on "renal failure" vinyl has matrix information that differs slightly from the 2008 variants which says to me that there was likely a re-cut/remaster that occurred for that press. So that one is probably all set to be put out like this. I don't know maybe this is phase 1 of the whole thing. I just really want remastered Oxeneers and Easter and HOPEFULLY a black variant option for each. You know the deal.

Yeah, I could plausibly see them wanting to do all at once – and would be more than interested in a remaster of earlier records – but at the same time, I wouldn't doubt if this was some weird "reverse order" phased rollout, like you speculated.  With the state of vinyl production being what it is, it would maybe make more sense to take what they can get, when they can get it.  Releasing everything in unison would be ideal but with pressing plants in 2022, beggars can't be choosers.  Maybe they had a TAAS box in mind but were told it couldn't happen until 2025.  Who knows.  I'll be interested to see if the other releases are trickled out on Bandcamp similarly.

Yeah, when you put it all into perspective like that, it seems more likely that they will be piecemeal parsed out in reverse chronological like that. I wonder who is going to handle and post the first two LP's. Repressing This Is Meant To Hurt You would be crucial and another press of the Like A Virgin split would be extra cream on top but of course the TAAS tracks will already be re-released from the compilation that this thread refers to anyway. Still I love the whole aesthetic of the original split album art as a unique release and those Harkonen-only tracks plus the joint effort collaboration that closes the EP are all very much worth spinning.

This fucking band... they're too great.

Another cool detail that might have gotten missed in all this is that this current TS&D press is gatefold now. The 2008 variants are NOT but I don't know if the 2016 remaster is or not. Pics of that pressing on Discogs make it look like there could be gatefold panels but its not clear.

Throw all three albums, This Is Meant To Hurt You and Like A Virgin into a slipcase and I will gladly spend way too much money on it. Preferably remastered, gatefold and whatever else they can do to justifiably differentiate them from the originals. I love the MoM Like A Virgin release but it’d be nice with an actual sleeve and not just construction paper.
