thedavidescapeplan
The King of Kong - My friend is in love with this movie so we watched it over the weekend and I really liked it. I recommend it highly.
scooterist136
I watched the film "Death Note" last night. It's a Japanese film based on the anime and manga of the same name. The CGI was crappy but the story line was really good. I don't watch anime or read manga so I wasn't familiar with the story.

casey
Just watched "This is England". What a sad fucking movie. It's set in 1983 during the Falklands War and this kid's dad has died in it. The kid ends up falling in with some Nationalist skinheads and things just get really fucked. Normally when I watch Instant Queue movies on Netflix at work I'm multi-tasking and doing 10 things at once. This movie had me gripped the whole time. Dude, this is one of my all time favourite movies. It is so tense and well written. I know i have mentioned it on this board a few times now but Shane Meadows, the guy who wrote and directed This is England (which is semi biographical) also made a film called "Dead Mans Shoes". This is just as tense and gripping and semi biographical as well. It is amazing. Seriously everyone needs to see it at least once. Just finished Dead Man's Shoes. I really liked it, but I thought the tone of the movie shifted around a bit much, making its sense of purpose seem a little shaky. Other than that, I love Shane Meadows' slice-of-life style, that makes you feel like you're witness to people just going about their lives (albeit, in this case, a seriously brutal one). Also, Tom, I saw that Meadows made a movie last year with the kid from This is England in it. It's not on DVD, yet though.
silentgods
Watched Splinter. it was decent for being a low-budget horror movie.

I am not sure in the US but i think it was released in the UK in Feburary. It was directed by meadows but it wasn't written by him unlike This is England and Dead man's Shoes. Just Another Tom
Also, i just got in from Terminator Salvation, and i am not sure why so many people have dissed it. I really enjoyed it. Not the greatest movie ever, but it did the job.

murakami
in keeping with the foreign films i have been seeing at SIFF, i saw Kabei - Our Mother tonight. it was awesome. Set in Japan, early 1940s a mother has to raise two young daughters in the wake of her husband being arrested for 'thought crimes' of being against the government and therefore a communist. scooterist136
I watched "Lightning Bug" last night. I thought this film was pretty cool. It's sad and funny at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Guest duhpunk
Farce of the Penguins. quite possibly the funniest thing Bob Saget has ever been involved in. the cast was incredible.
whateverrrr
for the first time ever in my life, I watched "The People Vs. Larry Flynt". i liked it. Larry Flynt seems kind of awesome. And I don't think they could have a found a better aids infected drug addict than Courtney Love! It was hardly acting!
thomas
I just finished watching "Tokyo Zombie". It's supposed to be a dark comedy, and it kind of lived up to that, but it was also really boring at times. I'd probably recommend people avoid it, but it seems like it's a movie some people might like.
Guest naytoid
Rented 'Igor' and 'The Spirit' today. Igor was better than the majority of animated movies that come out now The Spirit was genius wrapped in cheese, I loved it.

scooterist136
I watched "Death Note 2" the other night. It was a good sequel to Death Note. I enjoyed the plot twists. Last night I watched "Brick". Once I got a handle of the slang, I really started to enjoy this film. The acting was really good.
thomas
I like the anime a lot better than the movies for Death Note, though the 2nd season pretty much sucked.
