bruins4ever
Don't know anything about these things, but I've been seeing some Get Up Kids flexi's popping up on Ebay recently and I was just wondering what the deal is with these things? Flexi as in flexible? What are they made out of? How do they sound?

jhulud
Yes. They're flimsy vinyl. They're as thick as maybe 3-4 sheets of paper.
bruins4ever
You actually have to weigh them down with a penny or something? That's craziness. I imagine these sound pretty awful.
patron
There's an old magazine with The Jam on the cover at my local shop with a flexi in the cover.
jhulud
You do have to weigh them down. Some even have a place on it where it says "place penny here"...they sound OK...I had a Bad Brains one that came w/ Reflex magazine. It sounded ok. bruins4ever
Ya, I've seen two GUK flexi's on Ebay, but I think I'm probably better off just buying the records with those songs on them. Both are Russian imports and have very funny almost Communist looking covers on them. Here's the one: http://cgi.ebay.com/GET-UP-KIDS-clear-flexi-COMING-CLEAN-rare-45-EMO-punk_W0QQitemZ230237164898QQihZ013QQcategoryZ306QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
desensitizedbyu
Yeah, I've bought one off that guy, just not at the price he wanted. A Queens one was up for sale, it had no bids and ended, so I sent him a message saying I'd give him 5 for it, and he said ok.
burntwolf
yea, came w/ zines. i just posted in another thread about them. that dimes thread. it reminded me of the 'place penny here' on those. all the ones i ever had sounded like total ass. afik they pretty much disappeared when CD samplers got super cheap to do. gearhead mag used to actually do a real 7" w/ their magazine. not anymore though. troymess
I have a C.R. flexi that came with the 7" when you pre-ordered it. Cool as hell, but definitely not the best sound quality.
aarondanger
I want to put out a flexi so bad. you cant get them made anymore

kyle
At this point it's merely an item to add to somebody's collection. But back in the day they were great inexpensive samplers and promo items. Also, I'm looking for the Falling Sickness/Nobodys flexi if anyone has one they'd like to get rid of.

nickbuysvinyl
i want to get a few just to have 'em i think someone should find a way to make them sound better and put them back into production
xjustinxschwierx
i have a Farside / Sensefield one that came with a catalog i think back in the day... yeah...if I could find a place that would make these, i'd totally do a series of releases on them that would rule...fuck every release would come with a bonus flexi...just to do it! kyle
i want to get a few just to have 'emi think someone should find a way to make them sound better and put them back into production There is no way to make them sound better. As you probably already know the thicker the vinyl the better it sounds, because of the deeper grooves. This is why 180g or heavier is preferred for audiophile pressings. Well, by the same logic, the thinnest vinyl is going to sound like shit.
salparadise
the only place that ever produced floppy's was eva-tone. their plant is about 5 miles away from me, and they mostly press cd-roms, dvds, and apparently a lot of cds as well. friends that had summer jobs there on the assembly line told me about putting wu-tang cds together. xjustinxschwierx
any of them still work there during the summer? See if they'll sell the machines that made the flexis... i'm being completely serious.
frank
I have a blue 1990 tour flexi by Snuff. And the Dead Kennedys bonus flexi that came with the compilation LP
epheron
Supposedly Erika Records bought the machine to make flexis and will be making them again. But who knows, and really...sucks if they do because flexis are fucking terrible wastes. And those Eastern European bootleg flexis are bootlegs. Just get the original records of the bands they bootleg. That shit is naasty.
