Fuck, just totally scratched the living shit out of my MU330 - Chumps On Parade test pressing with a pumice stone. DO NOT USE ONE OF THESE TO CLEAN RECORDS WITH!

Anyone want a frisbee?

You did not seriously try that did you?!

I laughed pretty hard when I saw that tip and even harder when I read that someone had tried it!!

So does anyone have any tips on scoring test pressings?

I have very few (11 of the 12 joyful noise monthly subscription flexis, SWAPS and the Don Caballero live album, all from joyful noise and a Town Managers 7 inch (Dead Milkmen side project))

Yes!!!  I was hoping someone would actually fall for my joke.  No I didn't really, thought it was a stupid recommendation in the first place, why I tried to mock it.

Really though, if anyone has any recommendations, I'd appreciate it.  I've tried dish soap and rubbing alcohol and neither was able to take it off. Asian Man sent it over in a rubbery type plastic sleeve that left some traces behind that I just cannot figure out how to get off.

Bands seem to use their test pressings as another variant, which kind of boggles my mind. A test press or an acetate is just a by-product of the record-making process. If anything, half the time they sound like crap 'cause they are TESTS. That they are so (comparatively) easy to come by these days devalues the entire category as a whole. Of course, I'm also a cranky old guy.

That said, I have a few that fell into my lap for acts I don't care about—Killing Joke, Yoko Ono, Gypsy Kings, Firetown and a few others—and only one or two for bands that I love (Love & Money UK 7" acetate for "Halleluiah Man" and the test pressing got when I made Too Much Joy's "Dr. Seuss Is Dead" EP for the fan club).

Care to sell your Gypsy Kings test press? Ive got a friend who might be interested in it.
