almightyseancore
http://www.target.com/p/Target-Home-6-Cube-Horizontal-Organizer/-/A-13217324 i'm thinking about picking this up to replace what i'm using now.
almightyseancore
If I remember right, this does not hold 12"s....I know they have a similar one in stores and the bin is like 10x10 well it has a height of 31, leading me to believe the cubbies are at least 14" tall. also the first comment mentions purchasing it for storing vinyl records, and gave it a 5 star rating. i'm just not smart enough to do the math on how many actual records i could stuff in this thing, and hopefully have some room to spare for my speakers inside one of the cubbies. my collection is only 202 12"s (not including box sets) right now, if that helps, and my box sets take up about 8 inches of shelf space. stopthisnoise
That looks awesome. I still have yet to find a decent storage solution for my vinyl. It's milk crates for now!
Team Avatar
I thought everyone knew about expedit, but I don't know if you can get a 2x2 expedit. and yes the target one will most certainly fit your entire collection with room as well. donlombardo
Yeah, you'll have room to spare, I reckon, with 202 LPs + boxset + speakers. and yes, 2x2 expedits are available, I have my records in one.

almightyseancore
no ikea in saint louis. not going to pay $300 for shipping (or $80 from amazon, these prices were for the 2x4s). or drive 5 hours to IL for an actual store. this target thing looks like a pretty damn good thing for me. eshame
i, like many others it appears, also use a (tall) expedit for storing records (and books). it's rad.
mrc
typically when you see these in the store the squares are like 11" - 11.5" which are too small. i looked at a bunch of storage units at target, home depot type stores and everything i found wouldnt fit LPs. i would go check it out in person first just to be safe. almightyseancore
yeah i wanted an expedit, but shipping to a city without a store is crazy expensive, so i don't have a way of obtaining one right now, except for a few local companies i've found that actually drive to the nearest ikea for you, for a small additional fee. i'm not up to making a 5 hour road trip for a shelf. shamrocks
looks like you can probbaly hold between 50-70 in each cube so should have room to grow
cephcarn4
I have the Ikea one but I looked at the target one - they BOTH work and the target one will be able to hold your collection.
TheCrimsonKing
I've got a similar setup to this albeit individual cubes. Each cube typically holds about 60-70 records. Approximately half of which are double LPs and half again 180g. If you're just storing single 120g LP you could probably squeeze nearly 500 in. Haha. Marvellous
mcpherson123
God, I wish expedits came with back pieces. The biggest bummer about owning one, in my opinion.
almightyseancore
right on. i'll be picking this up and building it tonight. i called and they don't have a floor model, so they can't make measurements for me. if for some reason the cubbies are too small i can just return it. IanRees
I saw this in Target last week and thought it looked really nice and woulda got it if i wasnt already using the Expidit setup. I like the backboard on it as well. Its already been said but based on the Expidit the cubes look the same size. mine is the 2x2 and holds currently at least 200lps & 10"s as well as a 7" wide photo box for my 7"s and some dvds and still isnt full so you should be able to fit at least 300-400 if not more. mindovermatter
I think I post this every time someone mentions wanting an expedit but doesn't want to drive or pay the shipping costs but: My nearest IKEA is about 3 hours away, so I've managed to buy 2 different sized expedits via craigslist and have scored them for cheaper than retail through IKEA without any shipping. A little patience pays off huge with that site. I'm not saying that it's the only option for storage, but if you want one, you can get one on the cheap. larry47591
how much is the target unit? i live an hour away from a target so just wondering.
thieves
yeah i think i've seen this in person and it won't hold records, unless the target brand stuff has changed sizes. they do sell plastic cubes that hold records, but they don't stack well at all. almightyseancore
how much is the target unit? i live an hour away from a target so just wondering. $80. So if you have an ikea I'd go with expedit, but if you're in my situation, this looks like my the bet. I googled this thing with "vinyl records" and found this to be recommended in another collection forum so I'm pretty sure records will indeed fit in it. And like I said, if not, I can always return it.
derby625
This should hold LPs; the baskets pictured in the unit are 11.2in high and there's more than an inch clearance. I ran to a Target store and measured (there's one a block from my work). I'll be buying two of these this weekend.
larry47591
yeah the closes ikea to me is 200 miles away so target is a much better fit. If it works.

dirtcult
Oh how I long for the day when all my records would fit in a 3x3 shelf like this. What am I doing with my life?
