kriss
If each cube is 14x14 inches, they'd each hold a few more than the standard 70 to 80 that can go into the expedit cubes so I'd say that the unit linked could hold between 450 to 500 depending on how snug you want them. almightyseancore
got one, check it: not MUCH more room. but i'm not complaining. just gotta teach my kids the ol "hands off!" here's a "before" picture incase you were wondering. much happier with this set up. it should only take about 20 minutes to build but i fucked up and put a few pieces on backwards so i had to tear it back down twice. meh. good times. kriss
is it possible to stack one atop the other to maximize wall space? I've done this with my expedits where I place smaller double rowed bookshelves and storage units on top of them and have had no issues in compromising sturdiness. lennyforshort
yeah how sturdy is that thing? looks really nice!
almightyseancore
Very sturdy, surprisingly, and yes stackable if you don't attach the legs.
youspinmeround
I buy these http://www.amazon.com/Foremost-327806-Modular-Divided-Storage/dp/B000O1APF0/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_img_c I fond that buying stackable when needed are a little more sturdy as you cant tip all of them and I dont have empty spaces I current have 3 of these in each corner of the room with a single on top of it
almightyseancore
how wide is each compartment? 13 1/2"
jimmyg
God, I wish expedits came with back pieces. The biggest bummer about owning one, in my opinion. Yeah bit of an arse. But I just cut some chip/cork board to size and nailed it on the back, does the job spledidly.
derby625
I can tell you that Target is working on getting their website updated with the dimensions of the openings and that this is great for storing vinyl. I know people.
Derek™
So you're still happy with the durability, almightyseancore? Being in the IKEAless boat myself, this seems like a perfect route. The capacity and dimensions are also picture perfect for my collection and room, too. My only concern is that I've got a few friends who insist that Target furniture is rubbish. And if I'm going to entrust this thing with my vinyl library, it needs to be legitimate. At this point I'm just concerned about long term stability. Also, does Target always offer free shipping on orders over $50? Or is this just a Christmas special?
deafmx
Oh how I long for the day when all my records would fit in a 3x3 shelf like this. What am I doing with my life? this. i should get one of these for the additional records i'll have if i ever move the floor records to the new Expedit i got a few months ago. procrastination rules. but then again, a 2x4 Expedit is $80 too i think. mcm1610
Target also sells (or at least, sold) similar shelves called "itso" cubes or something. There's a bunch of different pieces that go together to build any custom shelving you want. I have a little 2x2 thing going with two individual units and a double-wide unit that is supposed to have a shelf in the middle of it (so it'd be two 6 or 7 inch high shelves) but I just left that out so it fits the records. derby625
I bought two of these last week and I'm really pleased. They're sturdy and have quite a good amount of capacity.
controlthebleeding
nice, if you can't get expedits. i'd rather have the 2x4 for $70 than a 2x3 for $79. luckily i live in portland and no sales tax. holla!!
robthepenguin
God damn I need to get on this. I just have one old long crate with some stuff and everything else is on a crappy book case that looks like it'll break soon or in various other places around my basement. Balls. thallirn
I'm happy with my Marathon flight cases for storage... got 4 of'em now! When needed the lids double the capacity (each case holds about 80, add the lid and it goes to 160)
alangrey
got one of these the other day. put it together tonight. it's super nice!
garylane07
How long does it take to put a expedit? I just got a 2x3 but I don't have time to put it together tonight haha.
