dstrange
Hey All, Just recently I finally upgraded to a Pro-ject Carbon turntable. I find though when I put records on when I'm just fumbling around the house or cleaning that I forget to turn off the table and I've left it spinning for hours since I've become so used to auto-return. Anyone ever do this and what have you done to prevent it? Right now I have a small sticker on the plinth so that I can see when it is rotating. tokimedo
Usually when I listen to records I enjoy the experience and that's all I do. Look at the album art, read the lyrics. I dont do other things, so no, I've never encountered this problem personally.
Guest deathbydrums
I hate locked grooves for this reason... new Mars Volta always burns me with this.

I've never left it spinning though...I imagine that cannot be healthy for your setup.
tokimedo
I'll take 45 min out of my day or in the morning to listen to a record. Im a bartender, so my schedule allows it haha
chiefwahoo
Never. Few things bother me more than the click (or worse) of the needle at the end of a record. astrangerwithcandy
philviral
I often get distracted and leave my table spinning, coming back hours later to find it still spinning in the locked inner groove. It won't hurt anything. Puts a couple more hours on the needle, no biggie.
almightyseancore
i turned off my auto return about a year ago and ever since i've noticed this'll happen. but i've taught my kids how to go and flip the return switch, if i need them to. makes wonder how many unnecessary rotations my table has made since i started doing this. ajxd
If you're too distracted to remember your LP is playing, listen to CDs/mp3s. Or buy this: http://www.thequp.com/ cymbalism15
mjglor
I've let mine go for a few minutes when I'm cooking and have messy food all over my hands. If you have a decent enough cartridge I wouldn't worry about a few minutes. ^that's a pretty neat gadget though, might look into that... sergeantscruffy
I ruined my copy of Weezer's Green Album this way. I left the room and it started skipping and it wore a real deep groove into the record. Luckily, it's during "Crab."
ilikeguitars
The only time i can remember doing this was actually this week. I finished up taylor swifts red, picked up and returned the needle but left the platter spinning for about an hour. I know its not as bad as leaving the needle on there, but dont want that motor to die either.
thomasj182
No, my player has auto-return. However yesterday I was spinning an album and I went to stop it manually at the end of a song and switch over to the C/D side and I accidentally hit "start" which returns the needle to the bed and then starts the record over again. After I went to grab the C/D side the needle hit my spinning slip mat. It was horrible, it literally sounded like my player was dying. mattalica17
only listen to records with locked groves then the music never stops
Dillhole
Nope. I hate the sound of the run off groove. If I'm stepping out of the room for a little bit and know I'm coming right back I'll use the lever and lift the arm so I can come back and set it back in right where I left off.
