SeeMoreGlass
So I am planning a unit for the book 1984 for when I do my student teaching next semester and I wanted some songs to use as supplemental texts that go along with the novel. I don't really want any Beatles, Bob Dylan or other classic rock songs, because I think it would be more fun for the students to use something modern. If you guys have any ideas help me out. Again the songs should coincide with the book 1984 and should be about oppression or government control. Thanks in advance for any recommendations! Zick
The Resistance by Muse is a concept album based on 1984. You can probably work in a lot of songs off of that.

maneatingcow
The Strike might have some good songs but youtube isn't working for me right now. A Conscience left to Struggle with Pockets Full of Rust is one of the best albums ever and should have a good song or two. The line from the song 20 years comes to my head right away. Where you gonna go when they smash down your door Gonna cower in the corner or lay down upon the floor Will you give them the numbers, will you give them the names? Wake up things will never be the same

Emo Revival
Snapcase - Ten A.M The lyrics : The opposition, carcinogenic sweat that hides. The persecution, these hidden walls keep us aligned.Yeah, they keep us in line.Fourteen hours more.Covert tonight. The operation, a covert plan to get outside. The consecration, an archetype of a will that shines.Shining alive! Will you die or can we keep you alive? When there is a machine gun on every corner, you wont see me.When there is a federal eye in every household, you wont see me.When your every move is monitored, you wont see me.And when its all too late, you wont see me.
