slinch
I had mine stacked on top of my metal platter for a month before I realized something was wrong. I cannot even begin to imagine how this didn't completely destroy your table... Was it the Debut III's 10" platter? Did it actually fit in the cutout of the acrylic platter? Was the spindle actually showing? Wasn't the platter too high for the cart to actually track and not touch the record with it's body? mac1
Anyone else made this mod? Posted on Needle Doctor page. i NEED to do this. Not much information given but must be some type of micro LED set of string lights. A light changing option, like the Ikea set, would be fantastic. slinch
I did this when I first got my Debut years ago. Here's my poor attempt at explaining it the last time there was talk about this here: I used these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10213831/ Cut out a semi-circle from a thicker black paper, and taped the LEDs to it (so I didn't have to tape them to the table, avoiding any glue residue) in a circle, about two inches in from the platter diameter. Placed that paper on the table, so it went just around the platter base. Placed the platter over everything, making sure there was no contact between the moving and still parts. I'm not the best at explaining it, but it's really simple (I had a pic of how everything looked under the platter, but cannot find it). Ran the cable from under the platter at the back, with the battery compartment/power switch placed beside the table. A total cost of $3 plus batteries. mac1
Thanks. My MMF 5.1 has three transport screw holes that go all the way thru the two plinths. I will be able to stick one (or two) of those lights in from the bottom and fill the hole with light. Any "extra" lights will simply be underneath the table. Nice. Will post photos when complete. Korgull Of Morgoth
I rememeber reading the acrylic platter was recommended with cartridges like Grado Gold. Using the regular platter the Debut came with would cause the Grado stylus to pick up a lot of noise because of the metal under the mat. christophertsao
I did the LED mod with the Dioder from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50192365/) There's a plastic cover that goes over the bulbs and circuit board/strip that I removed to help with the clearance of the platter. It takes a little bit of messing around with but basically there's a small plastic tab that you need to push in and from there you can pull the cover off. Then I taped 2 uncovered LED strips on the body of the turntable, under the platter. I put the remaining two around the turntable. One is underneath facing the front and the other is underneath facing the back. Here's an instagram video of it in action: http://instagram.com/p/dn6LazmWUT/ If anyone wants to see more pictures let me know and I can snap some tonight. I'm curious about what you did with the wires. Are they just coming from underneath the platter to the back? or did you find a way to keep all the wiring concealed? Could this potentially ruin the records your playing/interfere with the tt?
NJDevils1214
I really want this upgrade but don't want to pay the $130 price tag. I am going to hold out and see if this or a record clamp go on sale first. I "need" both.
Ent
There is a similar platter I found online for $100...I might get that one

Damn... Yet another reason I'm sold on acrylic platters. Can't wait to get to that part of my upgrading process. Well done, sir.

taylo234
How do you guys think this would look on the regular black platter? Obviously wouldn't look as nice but there's some space between the platter and the table where I feel it would look pretty cool shining out..almost have it look like the platter is floating? allenh
What's the harm? Nothing wrong with making things look appealing. Nothing as far as I can see, I buy with my ears first but you still have to look at the thing so it might as well please your eyes as well taylo234

Using the regular platter the Debut came with would cause the Grado stylus to pick up a lot of noise because of the metal under the mat. I might be a little late on this thread so sorry if I am or I'm giving anyone’s granny too many eggs but acrylic platters are favoured over metal or glass because they are more inert. A metal or glass platter can ring which can make things sound brighter, but an acrylic platter is only sonically better if you are using a cartridge and arm combination that is sensitive enough to pick up that ring on a metal or glass platter in the first place. but even if your arm/cartridge are not a reason to upgrade they do look a lot nicer especially with coloured vinyl and you don't use a plater mat of any sort. NJDevils1214
Does the Acrylic platter cut down on static? I would imagine it would if you're still using the felt mat like the ones that come with the Debut Carbon at least.
