What's a remake that was either better than, or complimented, the original?

I'm struggling to think of one.

If I'm honest I suppose the Red Dawn remake was solid but not nearly as good as the first. Has there been one yet that people hold up as great?

Let Me In

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I wouldn't say they are better than the originals but they were certainly well done.

Not better than the original but Dredd was pretty good.

It's not as good as he original, but the Dawn of the Dead remake in my opinion complimented te original pretty well

13 ghosts.

The original 13 Ghosts is a classic and classically scary, the remake is terrible.

I enjoyed Dredd, but didn't think of it as a "remake" just the reboot that it needed, for instance we don't "need" a new RoboCop. This Point Break rehash is just another example that Hollywood refuses to create/use new ideas.
