RowBearToe reacted to rooks in [PO SOON] Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
http://pitchfork.com/news/72828-kendrick-lamars-damn-graphic-designer-explains-cover-art/
i still don't get it.
"bucking what my teachers taught me" =/= making a super lazy MS paint mockup of a time magazine cover.
if you're gonna embrace the "this looks like shit on purpose" side of life you gotta go full pablo.

RowBearToe reacted to simple_torture in PO Soon: 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood Release Series
Please get your facts straight, only 3% of the releases in this series will be abortions; the remaining 97% percent will be comprised of free screenings, regular check-ups, community health initiatives, and other essential services.

1) Decide what you're trying to accomplish. Your title said review, but it was an unboxing.
2) Determine who your audience is. Then figure out what your audience wants to hear. Are you trying to convince young people to buy vinyl?
3) Either work extemporaneously or not. I do unboxing videos and I have things I put into the videos in order to keep a recurring theme: I get a beer out of my fridge, I show a few records I've picked up, etc. I also show the vinyl itself, and not just the record in a sleeve. I have no idea if people are enjoying my unboxing videos, I put them there because it was requested of me. So, I do it and have fun with it.
I did get a good comment on YouTube once...so there's that.
4) LOOK LIKE YOU'RE HAVING FUN. It looks like you're doing an oral report and didn't prepare.
5) If you're going to be doing videos of long established albums like Dark Side of the Moon, you shouldn't have any editing, any ums or urs...rehearse it before hand.
SPEAK LOUDLY and clearly.
6) Have a point. It didn't seem like there was much of a point to the video.
7) Do many of them before you start trying to get people to watch them. It takes time to develop a style and you don't have one. Your video is not going to garner repeated viewership. Just because you make a video, it doesn't mean you have to publish it. Do practice videos of every record you have. Figure out what you're trying to get across and learn to get that across.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention this: Found a guy on FB selling his collection of records. It was about 300 records for $200. But the pics he showed, made it seem worth it. I left work around noon on Friday. I drove about 11 hours to Eureka Springs, Arkansas (which is just 20 minutes south of the Missouri state line). I showed up at this guy's house around 11 PM. Chatted for a minute, inspected a lot of the records, and packed them up. Drove another hour to Harrison, AR to find a motel to sleep in. Got up the next day around 8 AM and started the drive shortly after. Around 6 PM I was back in New Orleans. 30 hours and 1,300 miles later and I had this:

Saddest part is, I'm nearly three minutes into being Rick Rolled as I'm posting this reply. This track is a banger.

Just a little early, but pretty good haha
The Rickroll doesn't have the same affect with a 10 second ad before it though

RowBearToe reacted to Reshiram in [PO SOON] Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
The reason I wouldn't say that is because, well look who's got the number 1 songs, Drake dominates the charts, and he's nowhere near a top 5 rapper, plenty of trap artist top charts, and they're not even top 10. Album sales definitely don't reflect ability, and I wouldn't say they reflect Kendrick's ability, yes some of his popularity comes from his rapping abilities, but he's also got a track with Sia and Taylor Swift, his album sales aren't all from his rapping abilities.
And for the record I like trap and Drake, they were just the best examples.
And you really need to stop saying shit like this, just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't mean were crazy, and you saying shit like "LOL if you think _____ is better than _____" is rude and annoying.
And I agree with you, I never said any of the artist I mentioned are the best, and I don't think anyone can prove who's the best, I'm just sick of people saying Kendrick is the best.
Anyways I'll let this be now, I just came to say what I had to say, back on topic, I am excited for new Kendrick and I hope it lives up to the hype.

I think arguing about "the best rapper alive" is idiotic.

TLOP is pretty damn great though. I'd say Kendrick takes the 'best rapper alive' title - but Ye is right behind. Shit just go listen to "No More Parties In LA".

Gonna' be the sweaty contrarian here and say that GKMC is a lot of fun and has held up over the years, but TPAB has always felt bloated to me, and isn't an album that retains my interest from start to finish despite several revisits over the last couple of years. I know my opinion is of the minority, but I'm just throwing it out there.
