Like this issue has anything to do with the label that released the album.

My name is Richard, and my last name starts with "Critt", so the name just sort of... happened haha.  I never think about how weird it must sound to people who have no idea what my name is.

Go on etsy and type in Disney, or anything else that's copyrighted. I seriously doubt they got direct consent to use other peoples imagery. The difference here is that I don't have a store set up. I'm making these for people who are part of my vinyl collecting community. They are buying the supplies. And if you want to think of it this way, they are tipping me for doing it for them. I'm not a company or a store. Just a guy doing something nice for my VC friends.

$3.19 for each sheet of bristol board before tax. One sheet can make one record sleeve, two sheets makes one gatefold. Each cartridge of ink for the printer costs $40 and the printer requires 7 cartridges. Two black, two white, one red, one yellow, and one blue. Thats $280 just in ink. The sound of animals fighting record sleeves I made used a whole cartridge of blue, red, and black. I bought a paper cutter so I wouldnt have to cut 60 sheets of paper with a razor one at a time. That cost me $140 since its considered industrial size. It takes me about one hour to put together a gatefold. Half hour for single sleeve. So, since I made 30 record sleeves for that project I spent around $450 in supplies. I made a profit of $150 in exchange for my 20+ hours of folding and gluing. Thats not even including the $40 i spent in supplies at first when I was sampling different types of paper. Basically I made a profit of $110 which at minimum of 20 hours gives me $5 an hour. Since I had to split profits with my friend for letting me use his printer that puts me at $2.50 an hour for a total profit of $55! Yay! And if youd like to include the printer cost shared between me and my friend then were in the hole by about $4800.

Oh, and I charged $4 for shipping. Shipping cost was $3.27, record mailers cost $1.20. I lost $.47 every order I shipped.

Yeah, cause after six years of Will and I losing money and taking zero dollars from this label, we finally decided that an extra $500 a month is going to tip the scales in our favor!  Nevermind the fact that the cost of production, manufacturing and materials has continued to rise each year, yet we've kept the price of our LPs at $12 (plus $4 flat rate shipping) since Tiny Engines' inception.  Nevermind that we always go the extra mile with cool packaging (read about it!) or that our release schedule is the busiest it has ever been.

Here's a little secret about 90% of independent labels: they don't make money.  The people who run them don't make money.   If they're lucky, they're barely breaking even and future releases are hanging by a thread of uncertainty.  IF THEY'RE LUCKY!

I say all this not as a rant, but just as a friendly reminder that if you've ever bought a record from an independent label or band, your money isn't lining anyone's proverbial pockets.  No, you're helping to keep these labels alive, which is an awesome thing.  We're blessed to have worked with awesome outfits like The Hotelier, Dikembe, Restorations and Tigers Jaw because those bands keep us afloat and allow us to release awesome records from other smaller, not-as-well-known-but-equally-awesome groups like Cayetana, It Looks Sad, Little Big League, Somos and so on and so forth.

Just remember this: if an independent label raises its prices by a couple bucks, it's probably because they need to.  Vinyl is expensive because it's expensive to manufacture.  Also, we're talking about $14.  This is not an insane price for an LP.

When is dude ranch out? Will HT have it at any of the closest stores near me? Do you think if I call ahead if they would put my name on some sort of list or something? Will they be online and if they are, will I have a good chance of snagging one? I want to but I don't want to hurt my wallet. If I decide to go ahead and get one, I want it to be PRISTINE. I do not, and I repeat, DO NOT want to deal with something as awful as corner dings or something like that. If I do decide to pull the trigger, will it charge my paypal account immediately and ship? I don't know what Autochecked means and that happened once when I ordered sweet Good Charlotte vinyl but I did end up getting that so I guess Autochecked doesn't mean anything bad? If it does end up getting to me in tip top shape, I will never open it so in 10 years, I can either A ) Put it in a museum or B ) sell it for a butt ton of money because lets face it, in 10 years, Who wouldn't pay more for a record that is still sealed and in mint condition over  a record that's been played a thousand times and has a bunch of scuffs and corner creases on the jacket? Blink182 is the best band of all time and my panties just get so moist whenever they release something new. Thank you Travis, you are my best friend and I love you. PS. Will you like please press some other awesome bands like Blink182? Hot Topic is the best record label ever!
