here in Austin all the local clubs and 6th street bands have stories about Gary Clark. I was watching a great blues band a few months ago and i went up and talked to the drummer after the show.. turns out he was playing with Gary a few years ago and left that band start playing with this new band... i said "ouch, big mistake?" he took a puff of his cig, took a long look at the street and said "... yeah."

Product Description This is a collection of songs from throughout the twenty five years we’ve been a band.  We initially wanted to mark this anniversary with a sort of ‘Best of The Frames’.  We put together a few different versions, including a certain number of songs from each record and including more popular live and radio songs - but this felt forced and incongruous.  After many conversations amongst ourselves we decided it should simply be a collection of our favourite tunes, songs we would be happy to put on a mix-tape for a friend.   So, here it is, with no regard to what album is most or least represented.  It’s a short collection of tunes we are proud of, some in slightly different versions from the original recordings, and one new song.  This is not the sum of our career but maybe some of the songs where we felt we had broken through to a new place or gotten better as a band. We hope you like it….we hope you enjoy it
    LP Track List
Side A: 1. God Bless Mom 2. Seven Day Mile 3. Happy 4. Santa Maria
Side B: 1. Revelate 2. Fitzcarraldo 3. Star Star 4. In the Deep Shade 5. Lay Me Down
Side C: 1. People Get Ready 2. Ship Caught in the Bay 3. The Cost 4. None But I
Side D: 1. What Happens When the     Heart Just Stops 2. Your Face 3. Look Back Now 4. Mighty Sword

man, what a great album!! i was 7 when this came out and remember jamming to the cassette for hours on end. It was so "hard core" to my 7 year old ears lol. I'll buy this strictly for nostalgia purposes.

Dude, good luck. It's worth it though. My gal is 4, and she is growing out her room so fast. I have the bonus room, plus we have a guest room. It's only a matter of time before she takes over the bonus room. Congrats on twins!

it is disappointing to see SSD flip the records but like someone else pointed out above, these store's don't exactly make a ton of money. Truthfully, had i not been able to get a copy at my local store i would have paid the $150. Its high, but not insane. I was expecting flippers to be asking closer to $500 honestly. I mean look at the Cat Stevens release from vinyl films, you'll pay $300 minimum and thats just ONE record!

The record industry is rising but its still a niche market. Lets not be so quick to throw out judgement on one small mistake.

i think this is part of the implied agreement though.  Not everything put out by Think Indie (or whoever) will be in demand, so many of these distro/store types have extra copies of things they cant sell.  When it comes to something in demand, I suspect they have some leeway to "explore the market", especially if said store has been a good supporter of the wholesaler in the past.  I mean its a dick move from where we sit, but its not like record stores are raking it in overall.

The push for lossless music is ever growing. A service like tidal entering the market and having support from musical artist is only going to increase that push.
Some people are fine with MP3 files and that's cool. Tidal isn't for those people... Well... I guess it is now that they are offering a lossy version for the same price as spotify. Tidals real advantage is for those of us that want to listen to lossless music and want easy solutions to do so. This is a nice platform to do just that.

Really interesting to see all the negative opinions going on in this thread. I read this less as a "cash grab" and more as an attempt by some of the older, more successful musicians to preserve the industry for a new generation. Like it or not, streaming is the future of music consumption. And while Tidal definitely needs to iron out it's kinks ($20 a month for lossless is ludicrous), I can see this being a very good thing. Artists complain all the time about streaming paying them pennies. If Jay Z and co. can provide a streaming service that pays artists acceptably and with its focus on the consumer as they're claiming, awesome. They definitely have my attention.

Just heard about this today and signed up immediately. I have been waiting for a HIFI streaming service to replace my compressed spotify streaming service. Ive been using it all afternoon and the sound quality is extremely impressive!! Looks like i'll be canceling my spotify service in replacement of this.

The company's blurb as as follows: "Introducing the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial."
Tidal's Premium service costs $9.99 a month, while the loss HiFi service costs $19.99. They're available to test as a free 30 day trial. Unlike Spotify, it doesn't offer a free tier.

Man. I'm shocked at the amount of negativity on this forum.
I understand if it's not your cup of tea but everyone's so fast to label it a cash crab. I for one am happy to pay $20 a month for the difference in sound I can hear when doing tests between this and spotify on my Martin Logan speakers or oppo headphones. It's a really good value when I consider I spend much more than $20 a month on CDs only to obtain a lossless copy ripped to my computer. By getting this service I won't need to continue to purchase so many CDs. Now It'll just be vinyl and streaming lossless for me

Check out some excerpts from Jay's #NewRules below.

On restoring "fair trade" in music:
Definitely. For someone like me, I can go on tour. But what about the people working on the record, the content creators and not just the artists? If they’re not being compensated properly, then I think we’ll lose some writers and producers and people like that who depend on fair trade. Some would probably have to take another job, and I think we’ll lose some great writers in the process. Is it fair? No. If you put in work, everyone else, you go to work you get paid. That’s fair trade. It’s what our country is built on.

On what he wants out of TIDAL:

Artists come here and start making songs 18 minutes long, or whatever. I know this is going to sound crazy, but maybe they start attempting to make a “Like a Rolling Stone,” you know, a song that doesn't have a recognizable hook, but is still considered one of the greatest songs of all time, the freedom that this platform will allow art to flourish here. And we’re encouraging people to put it in any format they like. It doesn't have to be three minutes and 30 seconds. What if it’s a minute and 17, what if it’s 11; you know, just break format. What if it’s just four minutes of just music and then you start rapping?

On whether it will offer exclusives from artists:

Well, it’s up to the artist. You know, there’s a thing now, it’s called the album cycle. You put your single out, promote it, then another single -- I think that now for an artist an album cycle doesn’t have to end. They’re on Instagram and Twitter and all these things, so we’re just talking about ways of extending that album cycle, and it could be anything. What if it’s a video offering tickets to the next concert, or what if it’s audio or video of the recording process? It could be anything. It could be them at home listening to songs that inspire them. Anything they want to offer, you know; just be as creative as possible, that’s the only charge, really. Make it look really good and make everyone that consumes it think, “Man, I got something really great.” Treat the people with respect; make it memorable.

    Hey guys, I'm Shane
I'm 14 and have been collecting/listening to vinyl for about 2 years.
I'd like to hear some feedback on my set-up.

My turntable and receiver are on drawers under a bookshelf.

My turntable is a Technics SL-D2, and my receiver is a Sony STR-V220

My preamp is that one I always see bad reviews for

I use a milk crate and a box for listening storage (there's more of my dad's in the basement) . With 10 & 7"s kept in the little pocket on the left. Also, everybody needs outer-sleeves.

M-Audio BX5a's. Studio monitors that sound rather good.

I have no clue what the cartridge/needle is (I dont have a good understanding of them, other than the fact that mine needs to be replaced).

I also have a cool little "Now Playing" shelf I made.
Also, if you quote try not to quote the entire thing, I know the pictures make the post rather big to quote.
