It would be amazing if there was a library for libraries, because sometimes I just want to borrow one to run around naked in, but only like cities and stuff can afford them, and they always get so upset with me when I go into theirs.

Have updated some of my music listening equipment, still running the Polk RTi A1's which I enjoy, but may update them in the near future...
Purchased a new Rega RP3 with an Elys 2 cartridge to replace my RP1... Very pleased with this update, it has a better platter made of glass and a better tonearm, I can definitely hear quite a difference in sound quality over the RP1. I changed up the plinth colour from the light grey to the dark.   And a new amp, the Cambridge Audio Topaz SR20 to replace my Pioneer VSX-521 receiver... I had to get something that would not only make listening to vinyl sound great, but also still be able to run my TV, Blu-ray and Sky TV (cable) through it and this unit ticked all the right boxes. Pumps out 100 watts per channel and has a built in DAC too. Adjustable bass and treble have really made listening to vinyl come alive.

We're talking about a niche community/hobby, not oil or natural gas or some shit.  I'm sure most the people on this board understand supply and demand at the most basic level.  It goes without saying that there will be a lot of demand for a limited product, and therefore, people will be willing to pay more.  But it's still lame to see people pulling the "but have you ever heard of supply and demand???" card in a community (these boards) that is pretty tight knit.

    No one is arguing that.

It's just this board is super quick to demonize anyone selling a record at a profit without knowing any of the backstory.

I clearly sell records, you can see my store. Sometimes I tire of them and I want to get new ones in. Not hiding that. I listed the Polaris record last night, two times, which means I accidentally hit the confirm button twice. I also meant to list a different record, and was looking at that one's entry for a different reason, and swapped their listings. Totally a possibility, but not likely according to the know-it-all's here.

It's just silly, overall. It really comes down to "mind your own business" in the grand scheme.

He's just a symptom of the sickness of his generation unfortunately. They're terminally ill.

Also, I think I'm finally going to say it: I think most people on this board are a bunch of ridiculous fucking turds for their own specific reasons. I still like some of you in spite of it, though.

People flipping stuff sucks; no shit, right? But someone selling something months or years down the line doesn't come off as flipping to me, especially if they only have the one copy and they're sick of it taking up space.

People selling something within a week after it comes out, specifically asking for an inflated price is shitty...but equally as shitty are the people who just bitch. and bitch. and biiiiiitch about it. We all get it. People who flip records are assholes.

Kess, you're a turd. Just my opinion, but it's not because you're a flipper. I couldn't give two shits about that anymore. I just think you come off as an over-privileged, possibly misogynistic dude that tries waaaaay too hard to let people know he loves music. **News flash** Most people like music.

Edit: Do I care what you think about this? No. Should you care what I think about you? Don't care.

This is pretty awesome to raise money for a good cause at Strictly Discs.
Be the FIRST IN LINE on Record Store Day!
Every year, the line outside the shop on the morning of Record Store Day seems to start forming earlier and earlier. We've walked up to see camping chairs, sleeping bags, thermoses full of soup (or something else), and lots of layers. We know there's no stopping the line, so we figured why not turn that rabid dedication into a fund raising opportunity for charity?
This year, we'll be collecting donations for one of our favorite local charities, the Second Harvest Food Bank, as we raffle off a guaranteed FIRST spot in the line. A minimum donation of $5 will enter you in a drawing for the catbird seat. The winner will be allowed to enter the store and shop for 10 minutes before we officially open at 7AM. A $5 donation will receive 1 entry, a $10 donation will receive 3 entries, and a $20 donation will receive 7 entries. The best part, with each dollar donated, Second Harvest can purchase 3 meals for those in need within our community.
Donations will be accepted up until Friday, April 17 at 5PM; after that we will draw a ticket at random - the winning number will be announced Friday night via our store email and on social media (follow us on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram).
Winner must present winning ticket at 6:30AM on Saturday morning. To make a donation, stop by during business hours with cash/check. To find out more about Second Harvest, click here!

SubstituteForLove reacted to Le Gogh in Richer Sounds Project Turntable RSD Deal - Free Spin Clean Washer and Phono Pre-Amp!
So I'm on the Richer Sounds mailing list here in the UK and noticed that they're doing what could possibly be a pretty good deal. Thought I put it out there and see if it helps anyone out. I have no experience of the washer or pre amp so maybe someone else can chime in with their opinion!
The offer seems to be as follows:
"Spend more than £300 on a Project Turntable and claim a free Spin Clean Record Washer MK2". The purchase has to be made on RSD, and probably in-store.
Not only that, the same email says that if you buy the Project Debut Carbon at £325 and are a VIP member then you get a free Cambridge Audio
551P phono pre-amp. No idea if this can be claimed as well as the washer, but if so this is a pretty good offer, especially considering the original retail cost of all 3 items. Might be a good option for those on a low budget who can afford to buy all 3 and then sell the pre amp and washer?
Lastly, the email does contain a £10 voucher but it says it cant be used with any other offers, so assuming you cant use this with the above!
    Hopefully this link will work:

    Here's ebay craziness for you.
About 7 years ago I bought that damn Jason Mraz album at my local record store, on the strength of that "I'm Yours" single. I couldn't have paid more than $12 for it. I'm not really sure what I was expecting because, quite predictably, I hated it. I listened to it once, maaaaybe twice, and put it on the shelf never to touch it again. I figured I couldn't pay anyone to take that thing off my hands, and it would just serve as a reminder of simpler times.
I come to find out the other day that the album is being repressed due to high demand.... reealllly?
So I throw it on the bay... Less than 4 minutes in, there are multiple watchers, and I get a message with an offer for $200 if I end the listing.
    REALLLLLLLLYYY?
    Jason fucking Mraz.
secondhand deja owners are immediately absolved of all shame after this.

It's more like asking if people would prefer a hot lunch or a sandwich. No answer is certain, but I think most people would find themselves leaning one way or another.

And who cares? Man, this is a fucking forum where people are freaking out over email receipt order numbers and posting photos of furniture they got from Ikea that they've decorated with fairy lights. I'm sure there might be a couple of people who would be into discussing where their preferences lie when collecting.

I was going to post a joking response to this thread saying I only care if it's coloured and has kvlt splatterz but I'll actually answer.

In regards to buying a record either first press or a later one, if it's immediately getting a repress, I'll buy that one because it'll be brand new, maybe a remaster, and maybe even a cool colour! Plus the magic of owning a 1st press really dies for me when you buy it 2nd hand.

In regards to coloured records, the only time I really care if a record is coloured is if the colour goes along with the aesthetics of the record I'd try to purchase that variant. This has lead me to purchase some less rare variants when records come out.

When purchasing a used record, I try to get the best of both worlds - a newer pressing that has a cool colour that goes with the theme of the record. This does sometimes lead to buying a record that is a bit more expensive, like Samael's Ceremony of Opposites which goes for ~$20 black and ~$30 red/black marble. In cases like that I bite the bullet and eat the $10 because the record looks cool:

In short: Colour is cool. So are first pressings. But really - do what you want.

And ignore the posters being idiots, they'll find another thread to correct someone on their use of the plural of vinyl and start breaking their balls.

Here's what I'm working with (plus some ATH M50s that aren't pictured because they were on my head):

The shelf was one of my first woodworking projects, built at a friend's shop. The wood itself came from a century-old piano and the Unknown Pleasures art was engraved by a CNC machine.

I've been collecting for around eight years but my collection is quite small (two top left compartments are full). I attribute that to the fact that I have a few other expensive hobbies and the prices of records + shipping to Canada has gone up drastically over the last few years.

Asking a group of record collectors if they prefer a first press or a rarer press when making a purchase is a perfectly acceptable discussion point. It's no doubt been covered before extensively, however the fact people are adding to the discussion is proof of it's validity.

It's way more interesting than reading more about RSD or Brand New reissues or whatever the fuck.
