  1. Going to look at a used VPI this weekend. I know nothing about these machines – is there anything I should be wary of or pay particular attention to? The seller has agreed to demonstrate it, so I've got that going for me.
  2. Here's the US Mammoth Storm (black): http://www.napalmrecordsamerica.com/store/mammoth-storm-fornjot-limited-edition-black-vinyl-2lp-gatefold.html There's also a lilac variant for +$8.
  3. Not necessarily new or obscure, but currently spinning the hell out of: Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory and Injury (post-bm, if you dig BDN, you'll prob like these guys) Wolvserpent - Perigaea Antahkarana (2-piece atmospheric/doomy sound) Oubliette - Apparitions (female death-y vocals, melodic)
  4. Mine finally showed up on Friday. It has the duplicate A/B issue.
  5. Yeah they closed with Sycamore. It was their "one more song" when they asked the sound guy if they had enough time. So ymmv.
  6. I probably listen to Melting Sun once a day. Such brilliance.
  7. "And I just couldn't figure out why no one wanted to stand next to me. People are so fucking weird."
  8. Not to be a thread Nazi, but you'd probably elicit more discussion over in the Everything Else subforum. There are threads already for stoner/doom metal. black metal, and I'm sure a general/classic metal one would be welcome if you wanted to start one (I'd be in it a lot). Lots of metal fans on here that would probably join in.
  9. If it doesn't help you maybe it will help someone... Make sure the card you pre-ordered with is still valid, otherwise Relapse will just cancel your order without even letting you know.
  10. Which is why I said "unless the belt is loose and slipping".
  11. I'm no physicist, but I'm not sure how the belt itself could slow down the rpm's between the motor and the platter. The force generated by the motor has to go somewhere – unless the belt is loose and slipping (which I imagine you'd hear), it can't just disperse itself.
  12. Snapped up Ufomammut, Torche, and Black Tusk (Set the Dial - 14.99). Vinyl spending freeze recommencing... now.
  13. Seen them a couple times (including the release show). They're legit. (Although I prefer the dual vocals live over the studio take.) Gonna grab this at some point.
  14. Relapse must have a ton of those shirts. Seems like they've been bundling them forever. (yes I have one)
  15. Insound was selling that RP1 package for ~$450 new. (Not anymore obvi, but evidence enough there's no need to drop that much for the same used)
  16. Just sold one through craigslist for $170. Had several replies so could have probably asked for $10-15 more. Sounds like you're in the right ballpark.
  17. Goddamn I love them all. Even though Yellow & Green probably has my favorite moments, Blue or Red would probably be better to start with since they're 1/2 as long.
  18. Find a b&m shop that sells refurbished equipment. This way you can get a warranty or trade-in value if something goes wrong. Otherwise in your price range you have 2 options: buy crap that's new or take a gamble on used.
  19. Same. Sent it to a few friends who are more into jam bands/americana as kind of a joke. They all liked it.
