Your turntable has a pre-amp, so you don't want to plug it into the phono inputs. Use any other input (tape, tuner, aux).

Yeah, caught that show twice. Lo-Pan was the icing on the cake for that line-up (and Against the Grain punch above their weight for just being the opener).

Is there a reason you're focussing on only the stylus and not anything else in your set-up? (Your money might go further to other improvements.)

Are there other contemporary genres that you find the pressings to be overall better? I think it's just an era thing... records from the 60's-80's consistently sound better to me as well, regardless of genre.

I've had that receiver. It's dead weight if it's purpose isn't for an A/V set up. The sound from vinyl won't compare to even the most basic of 2-channel integrated amps.
