Reproducing a sound recording, or publishing sheet music or lyrics, or covering (this last one is actually more complicated still) - those require a "mechanical license."
Things become further complicated when labels are acquired by other companies.

Bottom line is, it would take lawyers with knowledge of recording contract case law to untangle this web of shit. Asking the band is nice, and I don't like that they feel like they were shafted, but there wasn't necessarily any wrongdoing here. Or there was. I keep seeing people losing their minds over this band. So I went and saw the singer play a show, and while the dude tells some cute stories onstage, I wasn't otherwise very impressed. I'm open to having my mind changed, if someone wants to post the super awesome best ever song they can find on youtube that might convince me of their awesomeness.

yes i have one but i also have an ipad2.  i use the mini at work mostly because of the portability (for reading, etc.) and i let the kids watch movies on the full size ipad.  its a iittle bit harder to type on the mini, whereas the reg ipad has essentially a full size keyboard
