for what its worth, heres my opinion. it starts with, "im not surprised, but surprised" if its kevin morby

if you recall, most all new DD subscribers had to sign at least 3-month agreements. there was no way the third album was going to be a banger/in demand release.  theres also no way there are 30K morby fans out there, much less those subscribed to VMP. so, they press 10-15K of these (which wont cost nearly as much to license), wait for people to make swaps, press more if needed...essentially, this month is worth probably 500-800K in dollars, and it will allow them to clear out some of the old ROTM (since plenty of people will swap), in addition, its highly unlikely they will have to hold onto 15-20K of the current ROTM.

the real test will be can they sustain the subscriber uptick, and I think this is why the next ROTM will be on the level of DD, but they were always going to have a "meh" release this cycle in order to maximize the profit from DD.  anyone else think the current business model is one that helps facilitate a sale?  i think thats the logical next step (assuming it hasnt already happened)

i really like kevin morby, also, but will likely swap

    Although Rez agrees...
"The last two tracks were leftovers from a 12" that should have been released when we did lollapalooza, but due to record labels.... ...so, i thought they were good enough to be released, but did not fit with 'broken', so, i wanted to give them away but keep them separate from the EP, so, i came up with the 3" CD idea, but, my record label informed me that it cost so much to manufacture that they could not break even EVER regardless of sales, so, i compromised and allowed the first 250,000 to have the 3" CD, and the rest to have them on tracks 98-99 (so nobody would be ripped off)."

...I've always found them to fit pretty flawlessly within the EP, especially 'Suck'.

I believe the original disaster around download codes is what caused a riff in the first place. Add in the 'NIN production schedule' (i.e., everything is late) and I'm sure things continued to sour.

Please just let me order Broken and The Fragile from my local...

If the store is like any other, its just a third party hired on to handle online sales. That's it. They will likely not know anything about plans for keeping titles in stock and available and they sure won't want to say that anything they've stocked might be available elsewhere. I have a feeling these were meant to be kept in print. I think we'll just have to wait and see what Trent says about the availability of any current or coming quantities.

When compared to Fiona and Gorillaz, it's "guitary"... and hey, don't shoot the messenger. Take it over to the VMP boards that have it as a toss-up between those two.

While VMP has its' warts, the one thing they do fairly well is ensure their membership gets first dibs on everything. 1 exclusive per person has really helped ensure this is the case.  Want a copy? Join the club. Otherwise, I think it's only fair that those who pay their monthly dues as members get first access.

As for FF, I think I'm going to cave on pure FOMO... I'm not hearing great things about this album (good things, but not GREAT) so I'm sure I'll regret it later but when on Rome's crashing webstore...

It's an awesome variant, but there wern't 500 available as it was part of an app promo about 6 months ago. I bet they had less than 300, hence why it flew.

    FF down to about ~650

A week.  It took a week to get an email reply from Gnarlywood about an address change.   Still, with the weird missing/changed dates, I don't think it matters how long it took them.

I also asked them about a Broken restock.  I'll update the board next Tuesday with the answer.

I think you guys are ok for a bit, I can't sign-in or get to the FF release either. Sounds like none have been sold since 12:05EST so just hold tight.

I'd assume you're correct.  I mean, all of the other In Stock records have over 7000 in stock for each.  I think Broken never dipped below the initial stock, so I'd guess they'll put more back up at some point in the near future.  BUT, if Firebrand has anything to do with it, they'll take their sweet time.  That company blows.

I'd argue, so what if the band or label pumps out 7 different variants, you as the listener need to determine out what you find valuable in collecting vinyl. I am in no way saying that variants shouldn't impact your listening experience, to each their own in that respect, but I do think saying that your listening experience is weakened with more variants is unfair to the band/labels and passing the buck. Especially when most of these variants spawn from the label or other distributors (e.g., Newburry, Invada, VMP, etc.), and the band could care less as long as people are listening.

So to side a bit with @lethalenforcer, it's more telling of the listener than the band/label if a listening experience is changed because you know there's 6 other variants out there. But hey, that is part of being a vinyl collector these days for a lot of people so I'm not trying to throw shade, just don't think the blame lies with product creator.

Can also confirm my ME release sounds great!

Also, that 4-chan thread was pure gold, but it was bound to happen with VMPs rise the past couple months. They try to keep things so secretive but I foresee a time where things become a lot more transparent to avoid this type of BS.

I'm seeing them in shops around here, which means it should be out to people by now. Although the NIN store MAY be bundling their shipping together so if you ordered anything else, you may have to wait. But I'm just graspin' at straws on that one...

They have described it as a beta program. So it's relatively simple in format right now. I'm sure there will be a more nuanced pricing model down the road if genre subs stick, with the public being able to access them without being a member, or having discounted monthly costs is you sub for an extended period of time.

That being said, I signed up but not sure if I will stick with it. I feel a bit of FOMO right now, but my 'classics' collection is missing a ton of essentials and I'm probably better off spending $32 CAD a month on ensuring I have those in my collection over what will inevitably be a hit or miss album to my ears.

That being said, give me an electronica sub genre and I'll be signing up for life...

There's a ton of logistics that go into new releases, whether it's ensuring pressing plants are available, setting up and then selling tour dates, or putting the final touches on the product. All that takes months, not days or weeks.

I'll take the teaser approach with the vinyl available on album release day, over randomly dropping a full album and then having to wait 4 months to have it on wax after I have moved on...

Thread update: 10 pages later we have reached the Bull Moose Circle-Jerk Phase. Even when Bull Moose does wrong they get tugged. Not even in SRC's wettest dreams could they aspire to that status (and for good reason). But for real, BM is usually great and all, but something like this is no reason to be celebrating them. You can criticize but still approve of them.
