songs are fine to listen to, not disagreeing. also not saying there is anything wrong with liking music for the sound alone. but just because someone has "punk roots" does not mean they have ever been political, lyrically. i was making a comparison between artists who have always been political, and those who have never been but suddenly found the courage in 2017 (its not courage at all). Others might disagree, but I would argue 2017 has seen the biggest wave of artists-gone-political than the start of any year in recent memory. There is something to be said for that, and its not just the recursive "#dumptrump". joining a million voices already saying the same thing is not  political courage, and its definitely not punk rock. end rant, sorry i just completely lose some of my formerly favorite artists when they start writing this stuff i dont care about.

im tired of many artists that I listen to, who managed to stay admirably apolitical for decades, finally finding their political "courage" when it has never been easier than to be anti-Trump in 2017. boring. not courageous. feigned political acumen. I might not agree with many of the views of anarchist punk bands that have been political for decades, but they have far more say than Gorillaz and James Murphy in my book. anyone else miss music about real life? politics isnt real life

i'll use this intro to say that the antemasque album was underrated (or not rated) and should be listened to. and yes, TMV is a top 5 band, according to me.
 
 

spinning my copy now.  can't believe we seriously have a new ATDI album.  my first reaction is it sounds way more like an Antemasque album with the vocals.  But I mean, obviously Cedrics voice has changed a lot in 18 years.  Just doesn't sound much like ATDI.  I don't dislike it by any means, its just not the ATDI vibe.  Couple more spins though and I'm sure I'll be hooked.  Hope they tour the US again this fall.  Their show last month in NYC was amazing.

Color speculation is infinitely more interesting and engaging than reading about everyone placing 3 orders and bicker or fight with one another.  And it's the first color presss this album has seen in 20 years.  Let me have this.

This album is amazing.  Probably top 5 by year's end.

btw guys molly burch came out with a superb rock album this year. check it out.  Should be in my top 20 at least by year's end.
 
 

Id rather not have Hotline Bling and maybe cut a song besides that and get the entire thing on vinyl. Just putting those two on a 12 inch is completely uninteresting

There's progressing as musicians and expanding your sound to attract new listeners and hopefully retain existing fans.
And then there is this blatantly obvious cash grab and attempt to be relevant in music. Sad to see what this 'band' has come to.

I try it once every few months just to see if it's better than I recall, or to see if it'll clock like other albums have mysteriously done at random, as time goes on.  I'm still getting nothing over here.  I don't think it's inherently bad music, nor am I weighing it against its hype.  It just doesn't ever reach a moment that leaves a lasting impression on my end.  I know I'm in a minority but it's whatever.  Not a record I'm forcing myself to like, but also not so terrible that I need to delete it off my HD.  Somewhere firm between the two.

It's not Gorillaz. There is no 2D's magic voice, no good bass lines from Murdoc, No sick drum beats from Russel no interesting guitar from Noodle. +Cover this all with sause made of BORING music, throw in some cllab artists, who sounds out of place(most of the time) and you will have this album.
I won't be surprised if Albarn wrote and recorded this album in 2 month just to bait trustful liberals on hot political theme.

HOLY SHIT this is horrendous.
