The last time I saw Thrice was on their "Farewell Tour" in 2012. It was a pretty even mix across their discography, based on votes from fans, and a really great show. I haven't cared enough about the last couple albums to want to see them again, but maybe that will change with the new material.

Saw them tour TBEITBN with gates opening, that was a good show and proved that if nothing else they’re at the top of their live game. Set list is a blur- I was wasted 🤷‍♂️

The band teased on Facebook that they are going to announce something Oceanic and Panopticon related next week. Pre-orders?

Not sure if I need another copies of the remasters, but if these for some reason would be the original masters then it would be a must buy.

Maybe I missed something earlier in the thread but- you don’t prefer the remaster? It’s one of the best ones I’ve ever heard. Or is it just a having both thing?

So if this is the new direction then how will this translate live? Only metal set lists on some tours? Metal only encores? I’m not trying to be snarky I’m trying to imagine a show where they play stuff from their repertoire ( though I think they’ve stopped playing Roads to Judah, at least that was the case last two times I saw them live)

My guess would be they will bring instruments and microphones, then play the songs

Yeah I agree I was surprised that it was just those 2 with them. I love the two songs with vocals and think the rest of the album is disjointed with no real identity. The last 3 tracks of the album are really difficult to get through because there is very little there. Putting it in perspective, the album is pretty much just 3 songs and the rest is complete filler. I loved their previous album so I was really looking forward to this but this is a definite pass for me.

My biggest gripe is that the songs with vocals aren’t even from the band themselves. Really strips away the identity they’d started cultivating on audio noir

There were several pre-release reviews of this that were absolutely glowing, and I'm left wondering if they just listened to a totally different album. Gonna try to give it a few more listens but it feels, I don't know... unfinished?

Who knows, but this was a big ol’ letdown in my book. It took effort to get through, and it’s a pretty short album.

I'm still digesting it.  The last minute teases a more signature sound, but those first 5 minutes are far more Turnover than Deafheaven.  If I went in blind, I doubt I'd be able to tell it was even Deafheaven.  This single is going to 100% polarize the current fanbase.  I think the majority that listen to Deafheaven for the denser metal elements are going to be pretty soured.  It's such a departure than even unapologetic fanboys will have their work cut out for them.  I wouldn't want a full album of this, but it's still > Night People for me.

Turnover was my first thought! I’m here for this.

edit- wow fuck bullmoose. Way to shit in like a decade of good will in one afternoon.

they been fucking up orders and not fulfilling preorders left and right lately anyway.

  8. Box got delivered a couple months ago but have been on the road doing vagrant shit.

Had a chance to listen through all three and they’re easily the best sounding pressings available of these albums.

they’re still mid 2000s metalcore and come with the associated production caveats so take “best sounding” with a grain of salt

define sounds the best, nice 👍

Thanks. I know how the boards work. Sadly the mobile version sucks and it was posted in wrong spot

See, you say that. And yet you’re here, trawling the new releases thread with a lazy post for a record that’s pretty readily available.

For clarity’s sake, you weren’t getting ribbed because you’re drawn to a rarer variant, or because you’re interested in this release.  Your “struggle” – and not you specifically – found itself ridiculed because it really is pretty fucking silly.  I wouldn’t take it so personally since you’re hardly the first person to get blasted on VC for it, but that internal debate is a meme because it implies that your variant choice is more of an investment than something you’ll personally enjoy.  Muh rarity, etc.  It’s not limited to this release, nor exclusive to your own mindset, but it’s definitely an eye-roll when users are actively sweating which variant may be worth an extra $10 on Discogs down the road.  It’s why labels will make the safest and least appealing variant the rarest, and the most enticing ones common.  They’re banking off variant collectors and conflicted hype beasts who need to own the rarest color-way.  9 times out of 10 that’s for the potential resale value, or just a weird feeling of satisfaction / superiority that comes with having the most elusive edition reside on your shelf.

That used to be me; my hands aren’t clean from that.  I used to spring for whatever the most limited edition happened to be, and would sometimes supplement that with a variant that felt like the best fit.  But I’ve been buying vinyl long enough that I’ve seen – far too often – that it doesn’t really matter, or that the inverse is true.  I’ve scored some incredible deals on the rarest variant of a release I slept on, years later, after hype has died down.  Sometimes cheaper than what any other standard copies are being sold for.

At the end of the day, if the record is being purchased for my own enjoyment, and I’m going to be the one who looks at it and spins it on my turntable, I’m going to spring for whatever I like best.  Whether that’s the /200 1st press or the /2,000 3rd press.  But I also buy with deliberation and hold on tight to 99% of what I buy, these days.  Settling for something less desirable (but rarer) seems really goofy to me, so of course that’s going to get some 2¢ online.  Especially with the veil of anonymity.  Welcome to VC.

Derek: saying what I say, but like, not a dick about it since... oh idk 2019 or so

  11. On 3/13/2021 at 4:00 PM, dreamover said:

Was it? I honestly don't know if I ever spun it because it didn't have the bonus track that the first press had. I just sold my copies of the 2012 press. But The Changing of Times press that came out at the same time sounds pretty good.

No Underoath record could possibly be the best sounding record I own because that's just silly.

But I just A/B'd the new press and original press of TOCS and the new pressing is definitely superior. That may be primarily because the original pressing is a bit too crowded with the bonus track. Definitely more inner groove distortion on the first pressing.

Regardless, I had the 2016 DMM set of TOCS and DTGL and that thing was unlistenable. Sounded like they emailed some 128 kbps mp3s to pirates press to make that garbage. Which was a shame, because the art/packaging was pretty cool.

That bundle set from 2016 was a slap in the face, yeah. Edit to say my 2012 press of TOCS very meh. But as others have said, you’re never going to get a great pressing of these albums by nature of how they were recorded
