When I sold records in Jackson, MS late last year, I picked up this Meters record for $10. I freaked because Meters records are never available for reasonable prices. But it has sat in my 'to be listened to' pile all this time because it's not one of their first four LP's which are the standouts. There are some weaker songs on here, for sure, but I might have found my favorite fucking Meters song in this jam here. Produced by the man himself, Allen Toussaint:

A really well executed Fela cover. That drummer is tight.

It's become mentally and emotionally exhausting for me as of late. I'm on the verge of tears every single day. The only time I'm not anxious or about to cry is when I do get some sleep...as little as that's been happening.

I interviewed Chris Jericho about the new season of Dark Side Of The Ring, specifically the Benoit episode. Maybe y'all would like to read it:

Haha, it was part of a bulk buy from an eBay seller. I just had to get a high-quality copy of this song:

Can't believe I actually found something today. I have most of these songs on other albums, but can't leave a Blue Note double record for only $1.49.

That song plays solid VG, but the flip is thrashed and probably skips all over the place. I do have it in my for sale soul 45's box, but it's priced at $18. The way I was thinking about it was, "Okay, this is the side people want and  will pay for. But the flip is F so, maybe they'll pay half the going rate for an all around VG+ quality copy, That's a steal, but, you know, only half." I will keep it if it never sells.

This is a very candid and deep interview with Sonny Rollins. I was lucky enough to see him play live once and it was beautiful.

This is a bit of a departure from my normal contributions to this thread. I don't think I understood what 'Northern Soul' meant for a long time. In the early 2000's, I'd see soul 45's classified by that name sell on eBay for outrageous prices. I kept thinking to myself, okay, I need to find those types of records, but nothing was outlined to help clarify what was or wasn't. I eventually bought enough and learned that it just meant music played in dance clubs in England during the late 60's and 70's. It was a style of music people seemed to enjoy at clubs. There was an emphasis on a fast tempos, hard beats, with excellent brass arrangements, and of course, it had to be dance-able. But there was also a component of playing lesser known songs instead of the hit records like had been the routine for many years.

I bought a few hundred 45's in a lot a while back and went through every 45 to see what was worth money. I got some stellar things that sold for big money, but came across this. At first, I couldn't understand why it would go for $40-80. The guy's voice shrills and his vibrato is weird. But I kept listening to the song. Something got stuck in my head. It has since become a favorite of mine. It just makes me so happy! I can finally see the appeal. Listen for yourselves.

Even though these guys sound more funky jazz, this thread needed to be bumped. Snagged that purple version, even though it was 'spensive with shipping.

Funny. I love Giant Steps but hated A Love Supreme for the longest time, especially since I already revere him. But when I first heard it, the chanting 'a love supreme' annoyed the shit out of me. Nice contribution to the thread.
    ...
As far as new jazz, I can't think of anything I've bought recently. I've been on a soul kick which means I need to bump Lexicon's thread.

Also this sounds dope af, keep an update of what happens! My dad passed a while back in 2018 and I was going through his old collection not long ago and found a sealed 1971 press Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces of a Man*. Keeping it that way.

First off, I came across this Shabaka and the Ancestors PO and thought it looked interesting. I'm still digesting the music, but, so far, so good. Amzn PO Write up and strange video Here.

In other news, I have a neighbor who has a massive collection of records that were her parents'. Rooms and rooms full and they are looking to someday sell. I tried to get them to let me look at them and they said "it's just a mess". Pulled my hair out. Finally they were having another garage sale and I went back and got them to at least let me look through one shelf. Right away I found about 10 Jackie McClean records. Unfortunately, her parents really played the records and most suffered from condition problems, but there were also sealed OJC pressings and the like. There were also NY pressings of Blue Note and Bergenfield deep groove Prestige. There is tremendous potential in this collection and if it were 20 years ago, I would have really been losing my shit trying to get them to let me go through more of them. Apparently, they are letting some random guy they met at the flea market go through them and help them price them. I told them about Discogs and how to look up prices, so they wouldn't get cheated. Hopefully, I will be able to get back in. We did exchange numbers and maybe it will pay off. I was tempted to throw out a nice number for the entire collection, but I just don't think I have the energy anymore to deal with it. My guesstimation is that I would have to rent a moving truck and it would eat up a lot of time. I think if all the titles were in a lot better condition, I'd probably do it. I'd bet there are some sealed super rare jazz and soul buried in there. Maybe I will get to find out!
