No, but i visit Austin a lot since most of my friends are there and it was my home till i moved 4 years ago. I'm always down for meeting up for food in Oct when i visit. I don't dare visit in the summer. If you have any questions. feel free to send me a message.

After 25 years of living in Austin i wouldl suggest End of An Ear.
It's actually the place most people go if you're looking for metal/punk/emo (well 1st-4th wave at least)/etc etc. Waterloo is just big. It carries a lot of new records, cd's, dvd's, and knick knacks. but nothing stands out. You can find most of their selection online anywhere. Their used section is basically blah but occasionally you'll find something interesting. End of an Ear has tons of gems that poke out at ya. I think i spent like $250 the last time i went. All used except for 1 record. And it's a whole hell of a lot closer than Waterloo. Waterloo has just been around longer and i never suggest it unless it's Record Store Day.
But if you do go to Waterloo... next door is 24. it's pretty good restaurant, and Amy's Ice Cream around the corner is excellent. If it's your Birthday, maybe they'll throw a scoop of ice cream across 6th street into a cup for ya. LOL.
Also, if you're going in the next month or 2, i apologize for the heat. I'm making my way there in Oct to see family and i've already started saving. I usually hit up End of an Ear and Breakaway. Breakaway is just kinda far and it really is more for people into Jazz, and R&B, Soul. I mostly go there for Jazz stuff, because it caters to that kinda crowd.

If this is still about Hail the Void I'm pretty sure they'll have copies available once they've got it pressed and ready to go.

i had a chance to buy the no remorse bundles, but it was way too expensive to ship and just didn't want to spend the $$$ on basically 2 items that i wanted.. wound up with the pre order bundle through the band's band camp page. fucker sold out in literally less than 2 minutes. Even if you got the black copy, it's gonna be good.

same here. well that and a bunch of jazz records. cool thing is the place i go to doesn't have a great jazz clientele so i can pick up jazz records that come out on RSD literally weeks or months after its sold out everywhere else.
Now that ANTHRAx lp is gonna be hard to come by. i'm gonna have to ask everyone i know to help me out with that one.

controlthebleeding reacted to texan4life in Visiting Austin, Tx Any food recommendations.
**Whatever you do, you need to go to Celia Jacobs Cheesecake Experience. It's just different flavor cheesecake bites and they're amazing.
-Trudy's has really good Tex-Mex (they have a fried avocado that's amazing)
-Valentina's, Kerlins, or Stiles Switch for BBQ
-Tumble 22 has Nashville Hot Chicken
-Lick for ice cream
-Shake Shack or Top Notch for burgers if you don't get your burger fix with Whataburger
-Via 313 for pizza if Desano's isn't enough
-Up in Round Rock, there's Piranha Records and North Austin has Breakaway Records

Bright Eyes being played tonight is the best thing that has happened on this show

controlthebleeding reacted to kgry in SLAYER - FAREWELL TOUR (insert sad emoji here)
I was a huge Slayer fan. This band died when Jeff died. He wrote pretty much every memorable riff. Tom didn't want to continue after he passed. It was pretty obvious in every interview. Kerry will butcher the legacy of this band. It started becoming a joke when Dave left, then came back, then left. You can delete pretty much every album after God Hates Us All and be done with it.

If it's your first fest, my advice is:
- pace yourself! It's a marathon, not a race.
- take plenty of water/ food/ rest breaks.
- diddley will never cap out, but a lot of the smaller venues will (esp high dive, Atlantic, wooly, Loosey's) and double especially for secret sets. Get there early if it's a must-see.
- be flexible. Your plans will change and you won't wind up seeing every band you want to.
- eat tacos at flacco's and a gator burrito at Boca. Also hit up the hot dog cart.
- if you buy a lot of merch, take advantage of the bag check uhaul at high dive. They let you check it for the day and you can add more stuff to it later.
- if you're not staying at either of the official hotels, still try to hit up a pool party/after party/beer purge at one (warning: you can party out front of the HI, but can't go inside if not a guest. Wyndham, you can).
- Use the Fest app if you aren't already. Keep an eye out for schedule changes.
- hug people and make friends.
- If you don't go to one of the 88 Fingers Louie sets, you're fucking up

So damn true. I have almost all of their 7"s, haven't run into any LPs at the record store yet though. Crass is awesome. They really opened up what was possible to do in punk lyrically and sonicly. They are on an entirely different level, and they really helped develop anarchism as a staple in the music- dammit they're so good. Speaking of Crass, how many Flux of Pink Indians fans do we have here? They kill it too.
and just to throw a wrench in the gears a little, how about Ghost Mice? Love all the Plan-It-X stuff.
