What books are you reading?
SeeMoreGlass replied to beneathbelow's topic in Everything Else Message Board
Just finished this yesterday and it is fantastic, especially as a companion piece for To Kill A Mockingbird. It makes the original novel more meaningful. To answer the question...yes, Atticus is somewhat of a racist, but it is the least important part of the novel. What really is important is how Scout deals with this information and why Atticus takes the route that he does... As with all good books it has given me a lot to think about... I highly, highly recommend it -
Nailed it...I had a blast collecting all of my TWY variants but I don't ever spend money I don't have on it...and I don't stress about it... Also, I used to want to have every album from a band but I stopped that after the last few awful Taking Back Sunday albums and The last two lackluster Bayside albums. Now I usually try to listen before I buy...

Thanks man, I will keep all three of them in mind if I do this again. I wasn't sure what to expect when doing this so I tried to pick smaller quotes because I wasn't really sure how much time this was going to take so I had like 12 quotes and narrowed it down to six and went with what I felt were the most powerful.

So here's the deal. I used to be a Bill Cosby fan and had a small collection of his records before all of the allegations came out against him. I wanted to get rid of them as soon as I heard about this stuff, but didn't want to throw them away (pollution) and didn't want to trade them in because I wouldn't want money from them and no one would want to buy them. So I decided to do a little art project to raise awareness and give some money to support a great charity, as the title says, RAINN. I'm giving VC first dibs on these but after a week I will probably throw them on Etsy or something. I Identify as a feminist and am very proud that I could take some old records from an alleged serial rapist and turn them into art containing quotes by women and about women. Hopefully you guys dig it. I only have six, but may try to find some more copies of his records when I go to a used record store and do this again if these sell well. If nothing else, it was a fun project for me to let out some creativity. Prices are as follows. Each art piece is $25 plus $5 for shipping. So $25 will be donated and the rest will be used for shipping costs. They do not come framed but will fit in a record frame from Joann Fabrics and those are pretty cheap....I think they are 60% off right now so like 5 bucks a piece. Here you go...PM me if you are interested and I'll try to send them out the following day... I think its awesome you are working on the raw vegan diet...so cool man...hope you are able to keep it up... I didn't know if you ever watched the "Raw Vegan: Not Gross" shows on Youtube but I've made a few things from there and its pretty awesome if you have the time to do it. The frozen Banana Ice Cream is amazing, you just have to eat it all right away cause it doesn't keep... Heres a link...all the videos are great...hope it helps you get some ideas... -

I fucking hate myself for not getting a first press of this.... Listened to the stream and this record is incredible -
Orson Welles-a-thon update... Watched two of the three Shakespeare adaptations Welles did tonight "Macbeth" and "Othello"...both were fantastic. As a book/film nerd I was completely enthralled with both from start to finish. The cinematography was beautiful and had a style that just took the story to the next level. If you are a fan of Shakespeare then I highly suggest checking them out. They cut a bit out in order to make a normal length film, but Orson's direction and style are genius. The Lady From Shang-Hi was also great, the story was a bit contrived but the acting was excellent and holy shit that ending. Check it out if you are a classic film fan because it is so iconic...On the other hand his movie Journey Into Fear was just terribly boring. Probably because someone else directed and he had Joseph Cotton write the script (adapted from a novel) which he had never done before. The only one so far I have not been able to get through. Up next is "Mr. Arkadin", "The Stranger" and "The Trial"...all of which sound great...

My wife and I quote this movie daily..."I will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts...then you will run a mile..." Its up there with The Sandlot as iconic movies from my childhood... Alright, so TCM is having an Orson Welles-a-thon (four movies every Friday I think...) and we watched Touch of Evil last night. The first 20 minutes or so were difficult to follow, but I read that Welles did that intentionally, but it was shot brilliantly, the story was really really cool after it stopped being confusing, great ending and Charlton Heston as a Mexican...yeah...dude was an incredible actor and director. Also watched Fed Up on instant last night, fantastic documentary about how we are being poisoned by food companies through smart marketing techniques...It was a lot of stuff I already knew a little bit about but the statistics were insane and they brought a lot of attention to the labels and what "low fat" and all that shit really means...which is nothing...bottom line of the movie though...Dont eat processed foods... Finished the documentary Hitlers Children as well...if you get time and are interested in WW2 history give it a watch...its pretty intense to say the least but its fascinating watching these people deal with the baggage that their families have placed on them I'll report back as I watch the Orson Welles flicks...so far so good...

I had a lady at work say "used to could" as in "I can't smell alcohol on him like I used to could"... I remember hearing that joke in a Jeff Foxworthy thing at some point in my life but I've never heard anyone say it...quite disturbing... She also says the phrase "I've never heard tell of that"...and It never used to bother me but anymore I just want to punch her in the face whenever I hear it... Also, for some reason at work everyone thinks "Raisin Bran" is actually "Raisin Brand"...it makes no sense...ITS FUCKING BRAN PEOPLE!!! BRAN!!!! -

I would love to have We Can't Dance...already have Invisible Touch though...hopefully they release these separately... -
Word...or Boyhood... Also, The Theory of Everything was an extremely boring sappy schmaltzy film that makes me sad Stephen Hawking didn't get the film about his life that he deserves. Watched the movie About Time because KeepDoubting recommended it and it was surprisingly fantastic. looks like a romcom but is totally not at all... Wasn't a huge fan of Foxcatcher or Birdman...both were pretty middle of the road flicks that I probably will never watch or think about again... Still have to see Selma, The Imitation Game and American Sniper and I am suspecting that I am going to hate all three of them...but we will see...
