Not being sarcastic at all. We hugely appreciate anyone who's taken the time to check out the Alex G song, any of our back catalog of releases, or taken the extra step and purchased any vinyl (or tapes) that we've helped to put out. I would never be snarky or sarcastic about something like that, those kinds of gestures are literally the lifeblood of Orchid Tapes that help us to continue what we're doing and putting out more releases.
 
I know a lot of people are used to paying a bit less for LPs from "DIY" labels, but this is how it breaks down for us: Between doing music as Foxes in Fiction, occasionally mastering music and running Orchid Tapes, I have no other forms of income at this point. As of the past three months or so, I usually spend about 10+ hours on day-to-day operations related to the label, and a bit more around time periods where we're shipping large amounts of vinyl. We try to spend a lot of time being very fastidious over the physical packages that we send out to people (hand-written notes, stickers, hand-stamped envelopes and tea bags) because this is the kind of stuff that makes the process special to us, and hopefully to the people that buy things from Orchid Tapes. Because this can be such a time consuming process and because of the time required for my other 'jobs', I don't have any time left over to pursue any sort of employment that would provide a regular stream of income for things like food / rent / future Orchid Tapes releases. We put all our releases for free on Bandcamp because it's something we strongly believe in (with all the donations going back into purchasing download credits) so we make basically $0 on digital sales at this point in time.
 
At this point in time it's just not viable for us to charge any less and still afford to be able to put out physical releases (as well as pay the artists we're releasing music for) and still like, have a place to live and work. Maybe in time when we're a little bit more established and have different avenues figured out for making actual money, we'll be able to charge less. We're not trying to rip anyone off, we're just trying release beautiful things that we can be really proud of and charge what we think is fair to both us as a label, our artists, and the people who are choosing to support us.

It's funny how many people are still commenting on this and the other RSD thread saying, "Anyone have any extra copies of Ghostbusters, Far Cry, or Paranorman?" Like have you not been reading this thread at all? No, no one has any extra copies. We all want them but eBay took them all along with our tears.

Did anyone else end up getting this? I was able to snag one but I wish I grabbed a few more seeing how in demand they are.

Do these Newbury "limited editions" gain value over time?

I'd buy so much stuff from them, but I don't want to deal with doing it through email.

Got mine from Amoeba today. Worth every penny. Tempted to stash a few away for future trade bait. Such a great album.

I like VC and most people here so I won't go off on a tirade about how I don't care what you guys think. But, I REALLY only care a little bit. And while, yes, on the surface it looks like I'm an awful flipper, it's just not the case. So, seriously, outside of doing it to be humorous, down voting is so passive-aggressive and petty. Grow the fuck up! (I anticipate lots of negatives, so I'm prepared.)

Now, just to clarify a few things:

We can all do whatever we want, we have freewill, so trying to police who buys and flips what is so absurd. Furthermore, we've all done it to some extent so quit acting holier than thou. Flipping is about intention, not the amount. I have bought something intending to flip it, but it's just not the case here.

Next, I love the band. If anyone bothered to do any research and look at my records, you'll see that I own everything by them and since I'm a completest, having YAMS is essential. The first copy of the record I bought directly from T$N in 2008 or whenever it came out. I listened to it. Someone wanted it for what I thought was a high amount, so I sold it. Sometimes money is better. Then I found a copy in the clearance bin at Park Ave CDs in Orlando. Yay, I had another copy. Then in 2011, after my son was born, someone offered me $100 for it. I didn't immediately take it. Then he offered me $120. HOW COULD I NOT TAKE THAT? I had a son less than a year old. Shit, 95% of you would do the same without a child, so stop judging. Finally, I found a nice guy who was willing to trade me my current copy for three 7"s he really wanted. He didn't know the value and while I didn't offer that info up, I made sure he got what he wanted and thought it was fair. When he found out that it's pricey, he didn't pout, piss and moan on the boards, he said "Good for you."

Lastly, I always try to make fair deals and help people out, especially if I've traded with someone and my end of the deal didn't meet their expectation. To insinuate anything else is idiotic. Ask any number of the 100+ people I've bought/sold/traded with in the past four years, I assure you 99% of them will speak my praises. Not too many other people on the boards have that kind of reputation.

Totally. Boy bands didn't start using headsets til after this album set that shit in motion.

If you listen to the entire b-side of immaculada or Bastille from leave home and listen to anything off the last three releases and can't see an insane superiority in songs then you should give up listening to music.

The jealous people who didn't get them cant take their anger out anywhere else I'm guessing.
