  1. I paired mine with Acoustic Research AR-2a. I live in a NYC apartment so I can't go crazy but what the neighbors were willing to tolerate sounded great.
  2. Do not let anyone help you buy Metro tickets in Paris. They will try and they will do their best to convince you that they're legit---their English is probably better than your French. If you can't figure out the kiosk on your own or it won't take your ATM card---go to a window and purchase tickets there. Going to the Eiffel Tower is fine if you just want to see it and not access it. There's no line for that and the crowds aren't crazy.
  3. My favorite restaurant in Paris is Le Soleil Gourmand. It's located in Montmartre (Sacre Couer). Definitely check out Musee D'Orsay, Pere Lachaise Cemetery and Notre Dame. Then there's plenty more to choose from: Eiffel Tower, Pompidou Centre, Picasso Museum, Louvre, etc. depending on how long you're staying. I've been to a few record stores in Paris but I can't remember the names. I was looking for French stuff like Serge Gainsbourg and Francoise Hardy. There are a few good stores near the Bastille District. I've never been to the catacombs. Definitely go to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Tate Modern is also good. A trip to Windsor Castle is cool but that will definitely take up a day. Most of my time in London has been spent in Brixton. There are a few record stores around there. Rat Records in Camberwell is great and you should definitely check out Rough Trade which is near curry row. Brixton Market has some really good restaurants. Mama Lan is great and not too far from the market you will find Jeff the Chef who serves up some of the best jerk chicken I've ever eaten. If you can take a day trip to Brighton, it's worth it. There are a handful of record stores and some other great shops to check out. Have fun.
  4. I'd start with "Lift Your Skinny Fists..." Give it a few listens and see what you think.
  5. For those of you who missed out---the recording isn't great. It's not something that you would listen to more than once or twice. Great to have for the completist but not something that is going to get heavy spin time. Songs: Molina hits Brooklyn this weekend 6/23 with Chris Brokaw opening.
  6. That's one tall order. There's a copy of the Ty Segall Band 7" on Discogs. I've never seen those Smog/Songs: Ohia cassettes and I've been buying their stuff forever. Good luck.
  7. Rough Trade in Brooklyn had about six copies of that Distillers record when I stopped by yesterday.
  8. Greenpoint/Williamsburg: Record Grouch (986 Manhattan Ave.), Co-Op 87 (87 Guernsey St.) and Captured Tracks (195 Calyer St.) and Academy (85 Oak St.). You could also go to Earwax (N. 9th) in Williamsburg but I never find anything there. After record shopping you should get some pizza at Paulie G's (Greenpoint Ave.). Then hit up Lake Street (Manhattan Ave.) for some drinks. If it's Mexican that you're craving---head to the south side of Williamsburg for tasty treats at La Superior (Berry St.). Do yourself a favor and order a Paloma to wash everything down. www.ohmyrockness.com for shows
  9. Coop's Place for food, Louisiana Music Factory and Euclid's for records, go on a cemetery tour and go to Frenchmen Street for live music.
  10. McIntosh MAC1900 receiver with wood case. The receiver works great and is the perfect gateway to vintage audio equipment. $700 OBO. Ideally, this would be pick-up only. I'm in Brooklyn. If you're serious about this and need it shipped---I do have a MAC box to ship it in but it's going to be around $40 for shipping. Contact me if you want pictures or if you're interested in stopping by for a listen.
  11. Tom was out of town so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I really want Stoner Witch but will be happy with Stag.
  12. Why a preamp and not a receiver? Are you planning on buying an amp or do you already have one? What about speakers?
  13. Received a shipping notice even though delivery said January when I ordered.
  14. Finally found The Afghan Whigs 3XLP and the third LP is cracked. I've never bought a brand new record that was cracked. Used LPs from sellers who don't know how to package records---yes. But not a brand new record from a store. Argh, just threw it up on Discogs hoping that I can recoup some of my money.
  15. Still looking for Afghan Whigs and Alice Cooper 7".
  16. That turntable is for converting vinyl to a digital format. Sounds like what you really want/need is a receiver, a turntable and speakers. I have only been buying vintage equipment for the last ten years so I can't help you with the newer stuff but if you're willing to go vintage you should look in the charity shops. I don't know what it's like in the UK but I've bought some great Pioneer receivers for under 60 pounds.
  17. McIntosh MC2505 amp McIntosh C28 preamp The C28 is being serviced by Audio Classics and should be back tomorrow. Now I need to sell the MAC1900.

  19. Pull the message if it's such a problem. I couldn't care less.
  20. I get the Ebay thread thing sorry about that but as far as only posting once---they are two separate sales.
