I've read they're selling that new Carlson + Rogier Smal 12" and you'll probably find the Gold soundtrack as well. -

Well. to each's its own. The more I listen to his post-Machina TSP music, the more I appreciate the fact that he's reissuing the back catalog to balance things out. I'd say Oceania is the only thing that emerges those ashes but it still sounds transient and leaves the listener eager for a greater sequel. Unfortunatley, this new song kinda moves back to that unfortunate psychedelic-classic-rock that he recorded in those awful TG EPs. Hopefully it'll sound better in the studio, I still listen to Corgan's back catalog a lot and have a great respect for him. Incredible songwriter when he was at his best.

Yeah, first listens and it sounds like it was somehow rushed. I was expecting (don't know why) a bit more depth. I'm not crazy about that guitar tone as well, the way the songs were structured asked for a fuller guitar sound, he could have explored the Earth 2 technique and filled the air with a bigger wall of guitar sounds. It's some kind of a mix between Hex approach and the straight rock from Pentastar. Not bad, but could have been better. Dylan's been a busy man in the last couple of years and although he always manage to keep a high standard, it could be a case of him overdoing this act in such a small time frame. I recognize the vocals, the solos and the heavier distortion are all new points into his americana music and it should be raved as a good thing. But perhaps he could take a break and breath a bit more next time. -
WHIRR - Sway LP (out on 9/23) and Pipe Dreams Redux
azvd replied to jhulud's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Good or bad, perhaps that's the kind of reaction they're looking forward from the audience. Bring expectations down... I don't know if there's a "right" way to play your music, although a fanbase would come to your concert with a frame in mind, it's up to you on how you'll choose to play your songs live. From what I've seen on you YouTube videos, they are clearly an instrumental band on the stage and that pulls a great deal of people down. I can't wait to put my hands on Sway, I should blow the speakers and bring the whole building down. -
The album is pretty good. I'm glad they managed to revamp their mojo. Will definitely buy it.

And according to SL's Facebook, it's unlikely that they'll distribute through it their store. -

Looks like they don't ship to my location, I've e-mailed them about it. Also, SL didn't mention anything about distributing copies so far. Do 4AD play the colored vinyl game? -
Yeah, I got all previous reissues from Amazon (CAN/UK) which dropped the prices during preorder campaigns. Weird that it didn't happen so far with Adore.

This new song is by far the best thing they've put out since S/T and Paul Banks solo albums, Hopefully the album will keep things this way.

On the other hand, their debut, Gish, covers most of the band's early sound which is pretty consistent and relevant. It's also a good documentation of that "grunge" era of loud and crunchy guitars. Siamese Dream takes from where Gish left with more experimentation, different instruments, different layers of guitars and that incredible mix of heavyness and beauty. It also defines their music, taking them far away from literally hundreds of other bands from that era. Then Mellon Collie is an impressive collection of a multitude genres and possibilities, all bravely recorderd. It was a shock when I first listened to it with, looking forward to what should be a sequel to Siamese Dream but then introduced to a whole new Smashing Pumpkins. I'd start from Gish and then on. Also, don't forget to check Pisces Iscariot, their b-side collection. You won't believe the quality of their b-sides at that time. Same with The Aeroplane Flies High.

Sleep - The Clarity - "A thread just for this."
azvd replied to Metal Mike's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
If the band is saying there will be a repress, then you gust wil be able to order directly from them pretty soon. That's fair enough I guess. -
I'm glad they didn't consider it to Adore. Definitely doesn't fit the album and the song, well stands ok as a b-side and that's pretty much it.

Did he actually cut 50% of the music off? Doesn't make sense 'cause he not only made half of the original album less relevant than the other while failed in making the release affordable. $33 for a single LP is uncool and doesn't represent the full, original work. Unfortunately, seems like a leftover tape he had in his vaults simply put into wax without too much worries about whatever artistic vision it could evoke.

This thing is way too overpriced. As well as the 2xLP was.

If only they had that Sphinx shirt in stock I'd combine it with the black wax. -

I contacted them via e-mail and they got a copy on hold for me. Perhaps you guys who won't see them live or aren't taking the chances with Southern Lord (I assume they sell out pretty quick over there) might give it a shot. -

Anything different into the inner sleeve? It could be a result of the contact between the vinyl and the sleeve (and something between them). -
PO soon: Earth - Primitive and Deadly
azvd replied to ExtraFox's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Some labels don't care about it or perhaps don't want to deal with the subject when signing the bands. Or even print the cards and insert them onto the folders. SL comes from a CD/vinyl background, for some time they even ignored and rejected MP3s as something to look into. I guess they surrended and uploaded most of their catalog after they realised it could help them pay the bills but that's far from being related to the way they would want people to listen to their artists. -

SL doesn't include download cards in their releases. But when they make a physical release available via Bandcamp, you're are entitled to a download if your order through that channel (that doesn't apply to orders through SL.com). -
