  1. I’d usually spring for a Test Press if it’s reasonable, but I want the packaging, so might try for OBI + shirt.
  2. Oh man, this is one I’ve been actively petitioning for. Lots of rights to sort out with all the guests I imagine, but here’s hoping. Near Mint Twitter seems to suggest PO will be next week.
  3. Watches this week: -Finally watched [Rec]. Without spoiling, I’m not typically a fan of the kind of genre it ends up being, but I enjoyed it. Not quite as crazy ultimately as I expected based on hearing others talk about it. -I guess I’m one of the few who ended up kind of meh on X. Took a long time to get going and when it did I just wasn’t super into it. -Caught a wild movie called Braid on Peacock I really enjoyed. Never really seen a horror movie with a comparable premise. Go into it knowing as little as possible. -Like Werewolf by Night for what it is. Hope Marvel does more one hour specials like this.
  4. Watched The Eyes of My Mother on HBOMax last night. It’s pretty arty, short (76 minutes), and very messed up. I thought it was well done.
  5. Some good stuff coming to Hulu. Matriarch, Grimcutty, and Dashcam all look interesting.
  6. Watched the new Scream last night, which just popped up on Showtime recently. It was OK. Thought some of the acting was kinda iffy, but it was pretty fun. Have a long list of movies in my queue this month that I never got around to including The Night House, in the Earth, Titane, His House, Possessor, and Audition (somehow never seen it!). Should be fun.
  7. I’m not going to start a new thread, but Make Up the Breakdown being reissued by Sub Pop.
  8. Nine bands covering songs from the bands featured in the very good recent Dan Ozzi book: You may recall that around this time last yearI released the greatest book ever written, SELLOUT. Well, my beloved bestseller is coming to paperback this month and I thought I’d do something fun to celebrate. So I am releasing a vinyl covers record called SELLOUT SONGS! SELLOUT SONGS is a limited-run LP that features nine of the very best bands around today, covering their favorite songs from the book. Covering select songs from SELLOUT are: Laura Stevenson Gladie Ratboys AJJ Chris Farren Worriers The Dirty Nil Illuminati Hotties Murder by Death ORDER NOW This is one of the coolest projects I’ve ever pulled off. Everyone put their own spin on some beloved punk and emo jams and they will all knock your freakin socks off. Printed on beautiful black-and-white galaxy swirl vinyl. These LPs are limited and will probably sell out [har har] quickly. They will NOT be available digitally and I don’t know if I’ll ever repress them. First come, first served. You’ve been warned!
  9. Her best album IMO and was a white whale for me for awhile until I picked up an OP a few years ago, so I figured I’d pass this along. https://www.alr-music.com/products/jh3-become-what-you-are
  10. They pressed it in 2016 and those copies are pretty attainable/affordable (several copies around $20 on discogs).
  11. Went for a quick trip to the Twin Cities last week. Saw Spiritualized on Wednesday and then MCR on Thursday. Spiritualized is KINDA going through the motions but it was a much smaller venue than the last time I saw them, which was cool. MCR was as advertised - I could quibble with the set list based on my preferences but the band still goes and Gerard’s still got it as a front man.
  12. Saw Barbarian today and thought it was just OK. Intriguing premise and good performances, but I just didn’t like the way the story was told and without getting too spoilery there was one character I didn’t think needed to be there at all. Could have been a cool tight 80-90 minute movie but it wasn’t.
  13. Been in a horror mood recently so I’ll be making my way through the recs on this page. Watched Last Night in Soho and found it pretty disappointing. Also saw The Lure, which is a foreign film that’s been on my list for awhile and just popped up on HBOMax. It’s interesting in a “what if t.A.T.u. made horror musical out of The Little Mermaid?” kind of way. Also tried A Field Guide to Evil, but none of the stories really grabbed me.
  14. I should probably relisten to this, but I’ve always thought of it as her (I won’t say “worst” because all her albums are at least good), but least interesting album and the one I don’t really remember much about except the title track.
  15. I thought so too (especially since neither Infinite Josh or Fewer Afraid are included).
  16. New live album/documentary with mostly Illusory cuts plus January 10, 2014 and Heartbeat in the Brain. Haven’t seen an indication of vinyl release. https://theworldis.bandcamp.com/album/thank-you-for-being-here

  22. I don’t know what genre thread this one belongs in exactly, so I’ll put it here - this new Yoo Doo Right album is fantastic. https://yoodooright.bandcamp.com/album/a-murmur-boundless-to-the-east
