aflycon
Yo, is anyone going to explain what the fuck "yinz" means?
TheGhostOfRandySavage
Yo, is anyone going to explain what the fuck "yinz" means? It's like a Pennsylvania "y'all" but instead of being short for you all, it's short for "you ones." Yinz. My wife hates is so much. Alternately spelled yins. contiinstereo
Went through some of this thread a few weeks ago and since then have found myself saying a lot of the stuff people hate. I don't think anyone here would like me =P

Nobody else here in PA says that except the people out in that region of the state. I have also never heard a single person ever say that being completely serious. It's really just something we say when cracking a joke about people from that region. "He's a yinzer"
Youinreverse
People in Indiana say it as well but it's more of a "youins"
SBarry
People in Indiana say it as well but it's more of a "youins" Indiana state? or Indiana, PA? I have friends who have gone to or go to IUP and the whole yinzer thing goes for them as well.

SBarry
Wife is from Pittsburgh so that explains it. Her mom's bf says it for real! I guess I can't say I come in contact with many if anyone from the Burgh so that probably explains it ha. Will always be one of those things I will never understand. Philadelphia folk say 'yous' I am very guilty of 'ya'll' and I don't know where that came from because no one out here says that. Every now and then I catch myself saying y'all. Usually when I'm more than a few drinks deep.
SBarry
Definitely guilty of yous, as I'm sure it irks some people out there it makes more sense than yinz I just can't imagine hearing people say that regularly.
caninesapien
I dig American Football, but I have to say Brand New are definitely overrated. I've got a nostalgia boner for the first two album, but c'mon guys. Reeeeeally? I'm with Spooky Mulder on this one. Correct thread for the use of this term. Kyle - two syllables Karl - one syllable What? Kyle is just one syllable surely? It's not Ky-ul. Mine is "this is what you get when you meet a stranger in the Alps." (Instead of "Fuck a stranger in the ass") from The Big Lebowski The best I remember is the TV edit of the Exorcist - "your mother knits socks that smell". steventangent
I really hate the way people relate anecdotes online these days. >be me when I was 22 >just finishing up college >realize after all these years of education, still can't write a basic structured narrative >be's functionally illiterate TheGhostOfRandySavage

steventangent
Sure, "using a list" to relate any kind of anecdote. I'm seeing more and more of it over the years. It's stupid.

Derek™
Seems like it's mostly a stupid reddit/4chan thing. I also hate it. Yup, it's definitely a 4chan thing. "Green text" – I could take it or leave it, honestly. It can feel a little try-hard at times, but when a lot of people start sharing lengthy stories it can be convenient. steventangent
I'd rather read a fully composed thought. TheGhostOfRandySavage
