Why is there a guy in full Marlins getup right behind home plate?

http://blog.sfgate.com/hottopics/2014/10/22/who-was-that-guy-in-orange-behind-the-plate/

You couldn’t miss him — the middle-aged gentleman in Marlins orange against a sea of royal blue in one of the priciest seats at Kauffman Stadium.

His name is Laurence Leavy. He’s a 58-year-old Miami lawyer and huge baseball fan who goes by Marlins_Man on Twitter. So huge, in fact, that he reportedly paid $8,000 to watch two teams that aren’t the Marlins play in the World Series.

But his sartorial splendor didn’t sit well with the Royals front office, which apparently hates Miami orange as much as San Francisco orange. According to the Miami Herald, the Royals offered him a private suite if he moved or World Series goodies if he shed the offending jersey.

Leavy didn’t budge. “The owner of the Royals was extremely upset that I was there,” he told the Herald.

The Herald asked Leavy about his love for big-time sports events: “By his count, he’s gone to 27 Super Bowls, more than 200 NBA playoff games, and at least 85 World Series games, and many Triple Crown horse races.”

That makes him sort of a modern-day Rollen Stewart, the born-again fan who showed up at countless major sports events in the ’70s and ’80s wearing a rainbow-colored afro-style wig and holding up signs reading “John 3:16.” Only Leavy gets even better seats than Rainbow Man did.

Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that Marlins_Man had celebrity company in the front row behind the plate. Two seats away was rapper Tech N9ne, a K.C. native and big Royals fan. Apparently no one objected to his wearing black instead of blue.
