i remember staying in vancouver with some friends last summer when someone posted this. i stayed up like two hours aftery they went to bed reading that shit. incomprehensible to me how someone can maintain such a high profile business for that long under those circumstances.

did anyone hear about how Tony was kicked out of the Audition's show for talking shit on them and getting into an argument with one of their fathers? and the audition is on HIS label....such a fucking idiot

yeah and as the club was pushing him out the door he was yelling "I OWN THESE STREETS!"

and i laugh at my couple of friends who have victory records hoodies.

it sucks because the dudes in the audition are so awesome. the new record is so good. i've read this article before, its pretty fucking crazy but totally believable. I know a few people who work(ed) for victory, they have the best things everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to say

It's hard to believe that a label that was so great in the mid 90's could sink to the level it is at now. In spite of the fact that it is relatively successful from a capitalist perspective, the label (owner) has absolutely no integrity to speak of. It blows my mind that bands still sign to Victory Records when the horror stories are a dime a dozen. I don't get it.

I was going to be a smartass and post the image of that sticker, but I can't find it.

Instead, I came across this.

DOUCHEBAGGERY.

hahaha, they're going after Chris!!! ontario represent.

;D

what's even funnier to me about the whole victory records thing is that tony is laughing at everyone for wasting their time reading/caring about all of this, while still counting his mega $$$$$. i haven't bothered to read any of this stuff (or any of that which has come up in the past few years) about victory, and the dude seems like a mega douchebag from all that i can gather, but still....

The thing that blows my mind is that blows my mind are the surprising number of not awful bands who still opt to work with/for Victory, The Tossers, Comeback Kid, Streetlight Manifest etc. It just seems like these bands would have better options, especially since Thomas Kalackanancnay (whatever, just get a name like Smith) should know better.

I love this story, read it a while back. So entertaining.

I do always feel a little dirty buying Tossers' albums when they come out, but hey, I love the Tossers!

Streetlight Manifesto had no choice -- Tomas was under contract from his Catch 22 days. Victory contracts aren't band-specific, they're individual-specific -- if your band breaks up and you form a new one, Victory gets first right of refusal on whatever new project you've come up with (Taking Back Sunday ---> Straylight Run, Grade ---> the Black Maria, etc.).

And before anyone jumps on Victory's back even more about this, some form of this clause is actually pretty standard with many, many labels. Victory's is just a little more iron-clad.
