antoine
Have you ever not listen to a band because of it's name??? I just un-zip a file I had in my download folder for more than 2 years. The file was called russiancirlesGeneva.zip. I knew it was a band, but had no idea where I downloaded it or what it was. Also, I was not really interested to know what "Russian Circle" sounded like... I imagined it sounded like some metalcore band or something like that.. Anyway, I un-ziped it today, and I was soooo wrong! This record is awesome. I'm definitely gonna buy it as soon as possible. Have you ever not listen to a band because the band's name sounded strange/weird?

Wow! Never hear of them, won't listen too...

Derek™
It's a shame you slept on Geneva for two years. I don't even think Russian Circles sounds like a particularly metal band name, but to each his own. You should hop on the rest of their discography while you're at it. Especially last year's Empros.

smellybeard
i didn't listen to alkaline trio until a year ago because i thought it would sound something like tiger army.
mrewest
If that is your first taste of "post-rock", then I hope you'll check out more bands in the genre. So many good instrumental bands out there. It's currently my favorite type of music. They were also the first real "post-rock" band I got into.

I have records by GY!BE and Sigur Ros, and Russian circle definitely reminded me a bit of these bands. I'll definitely be checking the rest of their discography! Also, didn't necessarily thought it sounded 'metal'.. I just wasn't attracted by the name at all. I just assumed it would sound like shit... Boy was I wrong!! exitenglish1208
empire empire (i was a lonely estate) is, i think, the worlds worst band name, and i haven't listened to them. i hear they're good though. chunk no captain chunk is a close second, but i'm pretty sure they suck anyway. i also think self defense family is a pretty bad name, end of a year was better, albeit kinda generic sounding. birdwell
Everybody needs more Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza in their lives. worst band name ever is that Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right Select Start (or whatever the fuck they're called)....refuse to listen to them because of that name. Empire Empire (I was a lonely estate) is fairly forgettable in my opinion....if you enjoy slow soft music and a guy with a nasally voice who can't sing to save his life, than this is your new jam. Guest
I am pretty good at judging bands by their names. The majority of the time, I am spot on.

joshnotgood
I'd also like to say Rufio is probably my favorite band name ever. Seriously, Rufio was so BA in Hook.
mot
I always thought Hot Water Music was a dumb name and avoided them because of it... boy was I wrong! Off With Their Heads was avoided for a while as well, now they are one of my favorites.
deafmx
Worldwide Zoo. more often than not a band name will turn me onto a band and i'll want to hear what they sound like. I can't even think of a single band off the top of my head that the name has deterred me from finding them to be worth the listen.
Guest
Worldwide Zoo. No matter what people think about the music, great fucking band name!
capsized
Kellermensch. Really good band but took me reading a few enthusiastic reviews or so before considering to listen to them. Also the opposite is true, there are bands that you think have a cool name but you just can't listen to. I was always fascinated by the name Mastodon and I tried to listen to every album when it came out, but didn't like any until 'The Hunter', which just blew me away... youmightbewrong
Touche Amore. This band is solely responsible for making me never judge a band by their name again.
