Year of shows 2012

Recommended Posts

2012 marked sort of an end of an era of going to a shit ton of shows. I spent the last 6 years living in close proximity to Philly, Baltimore, and D.C. and traveled plenty of times to NYC and Boston for shows as well (have friends/family in both cities). Philly in particular though really rejuvenated my passion for hardcore music. I'd say hands down the best hardcore scene is in Philly (and that's a completely unbiased opinion as I'm originally from Boston and lived in Central Florida as a teenager).

A few months ago I moved to northwest Florida, and shows are a bit more hard to come by here. However, since I moved I managed to see Backtrack, The Queers, The English Beat, and Street Dogs. So all is not lost.

What part of Northwest FL? I can completely relate. We have to drive five hours, on average. Sometimes it's only two.

I'm in Fort Walton Beach. I think every show I've been to so far has been in Pensacola. Not too far but it just seems so many tours don't bother with this part of the state. Understandably I suppose, it's definitely not convenient for anyone

I live in Panama City, which is literally right beside Fort Walton Beach. It's like a twenty minute drive from me, but on the beach, it's like a five minute drive. We go to a lot in Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Orlando. There are a lot of local hardcore/post-hardcore/metal/indie/weird shit shows downtown if you're ever bored.

school really limits how many shows I can go to, and alot of bands skip out on columbus. I saw say anything/fake problems/the front bottoms/KDev at one show and then saw the front bottoms two more times over the summer

I thought this year was pretty good for Columbus. Converge stopped by, and they rarely hit us, usually Cleveland. I only traveled about 3 times, most of mine were in town.

We used to have this awesome little shop called Tek Records, run by one dude, but he shut down months ago. The only venue we have that actively does shows is called The A&M Theater. They're a little bar (not like a big bar, more like they have a bar so you can drink at shows) and they do shows, open mic nights, art shows, movie nights, all kinda of stuff. It's Downtown, so it's pretty cool to go just walk around before a show. We're actually starting to get bigger bands lately. As far as clubs go, there's La Vila, if you're into the party scene.

Yeah, way too many shows/bands to list...no complaints there. B)

Who the hell is Frank Ocean? Any relation to Billy?

Edit: Got to see Merchandise three times this year, which was pretty cool considering the attention they have gotten since then. Seeing them the night before I left Tampa for Arizona was probably my favorite show this year.

Shit, you guys have good memories.

I know I saw:

The Bronx

Death From Above 1979

Devil Makes Three

Brown Bird

Red Fang

The Sword

Murder by Death

I know there was more but I'm not sure, what they were. Some of those bands I saw a few times. You'd think I'd remember more seeing as I have to travel a little bit to damn near most shows.

Just curious how you people remember who you saw?

I have seen over 1000 bands. They all get blurred with years, venues, cities, etc

I used to save tickets but not so religious anymore

I have a tumblr that I use as like a journal for going to shows. Just who, where, and when. Really helps me out.
