I usually bubble wrap the cans and bottles and throw a layer of something around the outside of them. More wrap or newspaper. If I am being really safe I then put that book in a bigger box. Really, if it seems like it won't break, it probably won't. Don't ship USPS and don't use beer related packaging, like an old case of bottles box.
