^^ Depending on the car you drive, 99% of the time it's just ball joints in the lower suspension area. These are usually attached to the lower control arm. And the reason they normally go bad from wear and tear is because of the rubber part gets dry-rot over time and due to the excessive movement it does normally, they can snap or crack.

I was guessing lower. I think I need my tie-rod ends replaced, and since I have the right ball-joint replaced might as well get the left done just in case. Broken ball-joint = not a good thing when driving, esp. lower ones.
