mortenso
"In a silent way" is so freaking amazing. Got the Music On Vinyl pressing, which isn't bad.
mrrom92
On RSD I raided the used bins in a few shops and walked away with a 1st pressing of Blue Note 1501 (Miles Davis) for $10. From a store that specializes in jazz. Don't know how that one happened but I sure ain't complainin somethingvinyl
Youinreverse
I found this on Record Store Day. Apparently the shop owner ordered it by accident. I scooped it up quick.
bigbruise
Oh shit, I was just listening to that last night, had no idea is was an RSD release. $33 though?

Music on Vinyl reissues are generally pretty pricey. It it justifies it any, it's a European import. I saw it on Bull Moose for $27 the other day. I don't know if they still have it though. It was limited to either 1,000 or 1,500.
bigbruise
Right on, I'll still be on the lookout for a cheap used one. I'm sure discogs has a few. Good record though! Who ever recommended it in here is on point.
pamfletty
Placebo: nice! Just picked that one, and also 1973 up today at the local record store. It was also around $27 a piece here, so not much cheaper as in the US. Great great tunes!
mameeshkamowskwoz
I went to The Record Krate at midnight the night of RSD and scooped up some sweet used buy one get one jazz titles!Cannonball Adderley - Fiddler on the Roof JJ Johnson Quintet - JJ In Person Kenny Burrell - Guitar Forms Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - 3 Blind Mice Jimmy Smith - Hobo Flats Jimmy Smith - The Fantastic Jimmy Smith Jimmy Smith - Swings Along with Stranger in Paradise Sonny Rollins - Sonny Rollins Oscar Peterson, Stephanie Grapelli, Poe Pass, Mickey Roker, Niels Henning Orsted-Pedersen - Skol Charlie Parker - Night & Day Charles Mingus - The Clown Milt Jackson - Bags' Opus Django Reinhardt - Django Reinhardt and not jazz, but I grabbed Hound Dog Taylor & the House Rockers - Genuine Houserocking Music and since I apparently don't remember how to link pictures from Flickr properly... https://flic.kr/p/niKKna https://flic.kr/p/ngHi9L https://flic.kr/p/niMWJ3 https://flic.kr/p/ngHfyq https://flic.kr/p/nitf87 https://flic.kr/p/nite5A https://flic.kr/p/ngHc37
pamfletty
Also, these placebo reissues are only the second official pressings. There are bootlegs around. I had one once, didn't sound too bad, but nothing beats the official pressings. The first pressings cost way too much, so be sure to pick up the official reissue. Youinreverse
I heard a few songs by Django Reinhardt the other day and enjoyed them. Where's a good place in his discography to start?

I think any 'best of' will do, but especially the ones with the Quintette Du Hot Club de France are great! You know what, get this compilation: http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-complete-django-reinhardt-quintet-of-the-hot-club-of-france-swing-hmv-sessions-mw0000964556
mameeshkamowskwoz
Django is outstanding and you can't really go wrong. The hardest part with buying/collecting jazz is that so many titles are compilations.I'm trying really hard to just buy actual albums so I don't have a bunch of recurring tracks on various LPs. pamfletty
Woody Allen made a movie with Sean Penn, loosely based on the life of Django: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0158371/

mameeshkamowskwoz
So I finally got around to listening to the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey RSD release Millions - Live in Denver and holy shit does it kick ass. I'm already pretty obsessed with the band, but it's about time they released a live album on vinyl. Anybody else pick it up and check it out? paranoidantroyd
Has anyone picked up any of the new Blue Note "75" presses? Just wondering if they're as terrible as the Scorpion Blue Note shit.
somethingvinyl
11 pages and no mention of Ethio-jazz? Sheesh. Ethiopian jazz is such a small segment of the genre. But you mentioned it so the injustice has been unwritten. rtw88 and lexicondevil
