If you pick a route that's dangerous (red or yellow), you can choose to have your ships battle. It's a really quick way to build up resources to complete routes. Whenever you have friends with ships on missions, you can see them in the list of ships. You can help by speeding up the route, fixing their ships if they've been damaged, or escorting them. From what I can tell, helping a friend out doesn't cost you any resources and there's no limit, so you can help with every ship they have out. It benefits both of you because they finish routes faster and it gives you rewards for helping them (usually fire barrels to use during ship battles in the fleet, which are really handy). It's a win-win for both players. I got the Season Pass code a few days ago. I haven't really dug into it very much though. There's a whole side story featuring Adawale that I haven't started yet. Have you talked to all the bartenders? At each tavern you can talk to him and he'll tell you where to find a map. Maybe those are the ones you're missing. But disc-free is super unlikely - they'll probably scrap the kinect before they scrap a disc tray.
