futures
I guess that depends on how long he was clean before Saturday night, if he was at all. Nobody has said anything about suicide.
mitchard
This is getting messy. I wonder if they think the heroin was laced. From what I read yesterday, the preliminary tests on the heroin found in his apartment didn't test positive for the fentanyl that everyone was suspecting. Not sure on a tox screen of what he had in his system though.
catalinacaper
Just my personal feeling about it. That's why I said unconscious rather than dead. I'm sure we will find out how much was actually in his system at the time of his death.
ptrsev
I predict benzos and/or alcohol. I guess the autopsy will reveal this and maybe also whether heroin was the primary cause of the OD or just a contributing factor. Not that it matters.Fantastic actor, he will be missed. xadamhudsonx
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead This movie. PSH is amazing in it (as it Albert Finney for that matter). If you haven't seen it, you should. Incredible film.
whoshotthefrog
Aw man... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-3oeveop4o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3IiDBEOOcE Happiness is my number 3 all time film ever. Such a great actor. Such a great, yet disturbing movie.
paranoidantroyd
For those that liked Happiness, check out Solondz pseudo-sequel "Life During Wartime".
laralaurent
Finally got around to watching The Master the other night. And PSH was great as expected. Probably need to watch it over again to get a real handle on it. Shit was just weird.
drewberinger
PSH is probably my first or second favorite actor ever so this is devastating. Been watching his films all week. LET IT RAIN
Bladewillisisdead
Rewatched The Master tonight. Such an amazing movie. It's hard and painful to realize that all Paul Thomas Anderson films from here on out will be without Philip Seymour Hoffman. Fuck, it's painful to realize ALL films will now be without Philip Seymour Hoffman. The scene where he talks about wrestling a dragon was funny/odd when I saw it in theaters, but it almost brought me to tears this time. Now he's forever chasing the dragon. Rewatching Synecdoche, NY tomorrow and it'll probably make me bawl like a baby.

Going to watch Synecdoche, NY tonight I think. I haven't seen it yet.
tomfiend
Going to watch Synecdoche, NY tonight I think. I haven't seen it yet. Some Kaufman brilliance that is. Depressing as all hell though, I remember been so down at the cinema.

Going to watch Synecdoche, NY tonight I think. I haven't seen it yet. The Master is an odd movie. The performances and the cinematography immediately stand out, but the movie itself had to sit with me awhile before I truly appreciated it. It's far from my favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film, but it's probably the one I've thought about the most. I've seen Synecdoche half a dozen times now and it always chokes me up. I remember I made a girl watch it while we were dating and her response when the credits started rolling was (through tears) "Why would you make me watch that?! I mean, thank you...but goddamit, why?" Just be prepared for Kaufman's "meta-ness" to be turned up to 11.

laralaurent
Just watched Synecdoche, New York and I don't think I've ever been so intensely moved and confused at the same time. agaetisbyrjun
rtw88
Synecdoche, NY is incredible. It's a movie that I would never give a chance just from reading the summary but I watched it on a whim in the early days of Netflix just because Hoffman was in it and I really loved it. agaetisbyrjun
tomfiend
Only one film has affected me as much since Synecdoche NY . And that's Lars von Trier's Melancholia.
horrorbusiness138
Damn shame, he would have continued making some great movies.

Give it some time to simmer, then watch it again. It benefits greatly from rewatching
