New Orleans Record Raid

Saturday, November 16, 2012

10:00am - 5:00pm

Tulane University Zimple Quad

Near intersection of Broadway and Zimple (near by the Boot and The Mushroom).

The RECORD RAID is New Orleans' music media flea market with more LPs, 45s, 78s, Cassettes, CDs and... consumer audio equipment than you could hope to peruse entirely! This time, there are THIRTY vendors (previous shows have been about 20).

We are back at Tulane University, back under the big huge tree (that's right, it's an outdoor show!)

Entry is FREE to the public and the event is all Ages. Get there at 10 AM for the good stuff, save time for other events that day.

See you there! Right under the big ol' tree off of Broadway

New Orleans Record Raid

Record Raid hits the bywater this summer!

A quarterlyish convergence of record peddlers from all over the gulf area selling LPs, 45s, CDs, cassettes and whatnot of all vintages. It's like a huge record store pops up for one day full of new stock! In actuality it's a flea market of record stores, private sellers, DJs, radio stations, all trying to bring music out of their cluttered shelters and into yours.

Strapped for cash? Entry is FREE! Come join us and talk records. All ages as well. New Location at the Old Ironworks right across from Pizza Delicious and near our friends over at Euclid Records NOLA.

It just keeps coming back! The RECORD RAID infests the Old Ironworks in the Bywater AGAIN with a whole smattering of vendors selling all sorts of music. Need to FREAK OUT YOUR FRIENDS with SPOOKY SOUNDS this Halloween? All sorts of normal sounds abound as well: Vintage, modern, rock, soul, hip-hop, jazz, you name it! It's New Orleans' one and only quarterly-ish music flea market/record show!

Expect plenty of LPs, 45s, CDs, tapes, a few 78s, and a lot of music talk. We're also right across from Pizza Delicious. Yum!

Note: we're pretty limited on our budget, so we're bringing in a $2 suggested donation.

Know a Record Collector? Invite 'em!

Euclid is a good stop, but it is a bit out of the way.  However if you go over in that direction check out "The Joint" which has incredible BBQ.

Peaches is popular, but EXTREMELY over priced.  They had in print albums for close to $40 (One that comes to mind is Paramore S/T).

There is a place called Skull Records (I think that's the name)   Its down Burbon street before you get to the gay district on the left (if the city is behind you).  It is a small shop but the owner seemed like a legit dude and had some cool stuff

The HT not far from the city doesn't carry vinyl.  They suggested a place by Tulane but I wasn't in that area.

Have fun!

Skullyz is the place on Bourbon. Small, but worth a quick stop. The place over by Tulane is a combo head/record shop called Mushroom. Kind of ambivalent on their offerings. If you can only hit one place, make it Euclid.

That link has food and jazz clubs if you're into that.

Where are you staying? Euclid Records is on Desire right off Charters St. It's only 2-3 miles from the FQ, not out of the way. It's the largest store in the city. 30K LPs, 10K 45's, and 7-8K CDs. Massive inventory. They're firm on the price, but you can catch things their unaware of. Tell 'em Jeff Watkins says hello. I worked there for a year for store credit. I miss it.

Another store you should stop by is Domino Sound Record Shack. It's on Bayou Road in the Marigny.  It's kind of small but Matt who runs it sells things for very reasonable prices. I got Minor Thread 2nd press of "In My Eyes" for $150. Easily could have had $250-300 on it.

Peaches should be avoided at all costs. Also, there's a store Uptown called Jim Russell's Records. It's shitty too.

Skully'z on Bourbon is in the gay section of that street, thus so is the owner. But he is very nice person and he gets everything new that's out. Plus you can find some cool used things.

The Mushroom is Uptown on Broadway in the university district. It's more a headshop than a record store but some times you can find some nice things they don't know about it for really cheap prices. CHECK CONDITION though!
