  1. There is a difference between pre-amp out and line-out. preamp out means that the output will vary along with any volume adjustment made on the pre-amp side. line-out is a static line-level signal.
  2. Well...there is only 1x big box retailer in Madison that carries that stuff. I've only been in Paragon a few times but he did carry at least some of the lower end Pro-ject tables. It shouldn't be a complete mystery. As far as the pricing, it sounds fairly standard. The other place I have experience with is University Audio on Park street. They carry higher end VPI tables, so I'd give them a call as well.
  3. Madison, WI? Madison, GA? If you're in Madison WI, there's a shop on Monroe street that should be able to do it for you. Worst case, if you picked it up at the Best Buy Magnolia, if they do the set up, they're going to be on the hook if they break something.
  4. The 800x series is made in Japan. Everything about it is beefier. The features are pretty much the same. No digital input (the 6005 has one, the 6004 did not). Has a power amp only mode that I use to splice my 2 channel setup in with my AV setup, but that may not be useful to you. Soundwise, I compared the 6004 and 8004 with the Monitor Audio RX1s I was using at the time and the 8004 sounded more defined with a better separation and a tighter grip on the low end. I currently have it driving much more demanding 4ohm MA RX8s with no issues.
  5. I had a Marantz PM5004 and PM6004 and found them to be pretty similar. I liked the feature set and the price (~$200 and ~$450) Eventually upgraded to a PM8004 for around $500 and it's a different world. If you're on the fence about your PM6005 (?) keep an eye out for a good used PM800x.
  6. If you aren't knowledgeable and comfortable doing some troubleshooting/repairs, you're pretty likely to wind up with a stack of broken trash at $20 a pop. You have a solid budget. Just get a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon or similar and be done with it.
  7. It's a fucking BASS GUITAR AMPLIFIER. You can't trouble-shoot stupid.
  8. as far as output impedance, the main concern is whether or not your amp can drive 4 ohm speakers. A lot of consumer AV gear will only commit to 8 ohm in their documentation. Your speakers will normally list their impedance on the back somewhere or, at the very least, buried in the manual.
  9. Second the suggestion above. Keep an eye out for B Stock Marantz TT15-S1s (primarily from Music Direct).
  10. this post made me laugh like an idiot in a very public place. hall of fame material.
  11. I'd just return the Micca speakers. For the same price you can get these: http://www.buydig.com/shop/product/KLPPROMEDIA21/Klipsch-ProMedia-21-THX-Certified-Computer-Speaker-System-Black?sdtid=9471299&omid=200&ref=cj&utm_source=CJ&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_content=4485850

  13. are those replacing the KEF X300s? I have had my eye on a pair for my PC setup for a while... http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/kefx300abl/kef-x300a-5.25-2-way-digital-hi-fi-speaker-system-gunmetal-pair/1.html
  14. somebody get Guinness on the horn. I think I have spotted the world's largest cassette player.
  15. My barely-informed opinion is that you will see a bigger improvement from a source upgrade than you will from moving up to a new integrated. I guess the wild card is the phono preamp but I still think the table is the way to go. That said. If I ever move on from my Marantz PM8004, the Rogue Audio catalogue would be one of my first stops. Yum.
  16. I'd keep an eye out for something used at that price point. I think you could find a second hand PM6005 or PM6004 in that range. Alternatively, you could look at the 500X model. I had both the PM6004 and PM5004 before finally moving to a PM8004. I thought the 6/5 sounded pretty much the same for my purposes.
  17. We done killed old Leonard. What a shit week.
  18. I cannot be bothered to read the above, as I can only assume this thread was bumped in order to inquire about the availability of my gently used AKG Q701s. I am here to confirm that, yes, they are still available FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!!!!
  19. Your phono preamp should have some gain settings. Can you confirm it's set to the lowest setting? Also, please list the input impedance/capacitance settings you are using. Assuming you're using the 2m Red that comes stock with the Debut Carbon, recommended settings are: Recommended load resistance - 47 kOhm Recommended load capacitance - 150-300 pF
  20. I don't get it. does it play records underwater or something? Why is it on Kickstarter?
  21. I always kind of hope that the purpose of these posts is to actually to study online nerd rage rather than the ridiculous proposed topic.
