Just got my copy. As much as I wished this contained every b-side on vinyl or another disc of demos or a live album, this is a really great set. It's pressed well. Mastering is great. It's sounds fantastic. The book is a nice trip back 18 years. Reminds me of when I had a subscription to the NME and Q. Great album. Still holds up.

i just think it’s an honest look at how fucking hard it is to stay in and maintain a marriage or really any kind of long term relationship 

What parts are there to dislike on this album, out of curiosity?  I'm finding that it fluctuates between tracks that are incredible and tracks that are amazing.

The European release indeed comes on translucent blue vinyl. Also, the inner sleeves are not die-cut - the die-cut parts are colored/"stamped" in white. I put up the release including pictures on Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/The-National-Sleep-Well-Beast/release/10816982

This one is a different kind of grower than other National albums, as a majority of the songs build slowly, use very simple vocal melodies, and are driven by the drums & electronic layers rather than drums & shimmering Dessner guitars. IMO, once you start telling the slow songs apart from each other, you realize they are just as great as the obvious faster songs and have their own jittery, unsettling bite to them even though they're a bit stripped down.

I'm listening to my blue copy right now. They're my favorite band. On the first song and it's beautiful and I'm so happy.

I would prefer Neon Blonde or Ingrid Goes West over any slasher movie....but you are right neither of these are like classic Mondo soundtracks like Drive.

I am very much looking forward to this-I also thought Song Of Innocence was excellent (I think this record was very unfairly judged  due to the release strategy over the actual musical content) and between this clip and the live clips of a different new song they've introduced on this last tour (name escapes me at the moment), I have pretty high hopes.
Slight derailment: as I stated in the Atomic Bomb reissue thread-I wish the 90's/00's stuff get reissued sooner than later. The Atomic Bomb reissue by most accounts was a well done reproduction of the OG, and I'd rather pay those prices over OG prices on something like Achtung Baby or Pop if the quality  is similar.
 
 
YES. Although, they did do a Joshua Tree Tour ep back in June (where they played the aforementioned live clip of one of the new songs). It was a good ep-a great ep.

New single "The Blackout" comes out tomorrow and then the new album will be announced on September 6th (along with another new song). I personally loved Songs of Innocence so I'm stoked for this.

Like the lyrics on Mellow Gold aren't goofy as fuck.  I mean, "get crazy with the Cheez Whiz"?  High level lyrical artistry right there...
One of my favorite Beck songs from that MG era, Bogus Flow, has the goofiest lyrics ever.
 
Trying to say the music on that record is disingenuous and gimmicky is bonkers.  Have you seen any live videos from that tour period?  Shit is the jam.  Considering he composed all of that shit, it's lazy to call it gimmicky when you just don't get it or whatever.  That whole record is a big fuck you to that scene, mentality, and lifestyle.  It's not in support of it.  I mean, the record was almost called I Can Smell the VD in the Club Tonite.

Picked up an indie copy. First impressions: Queens have still yet to disappoint or put out the same album twice. This will be in heavy rotation n definitely wind up on my end of year list.

Album is soooo good. I'm in love with every song, only one that hasn't done much for me is Haunted House. I'd rank Un-Reborn as top-tier Queens. Just wish the album had another song or two!

Picked up an indie locally. Love the artwork and didn't hear any of the songs yet, so going in as a complete fresh listen. Three tracks in and I'm loving it. Production is great on it!

Holy shit this song is fucking bad. And I'm actually a Taylor Swift fan in the sense that I sing along in the car when my girl puts it on.
