I thought the EXACT same thing when I first listened to it. Like a ghost level or something. 
 
But yeah, this album is extremely disappointing. There was like 1 or 2 decent songs, the rest I was not a fan of. The vocals really ruin a lot of them for me. I'd have to agree that this would be awesome as an instrumental or something, or different vocals. This sounds way too clean and poppy..

Shit, wasn't informed on who would be taking over. But I did assume it would be people they've played with before. I'm sure they're great musicians as well,l too. I'm still excited for the new album, and definitely look forward to catching them live. That news was very surprising to me

So annoying that bands these days have la ton of variants. And quickly replace one pressing as soon as another "sells out". 

man, so stoked for everything you sent me. seriously, super awesome. that book is great. i just flipped through most of it. really need to sit down and enjoy it thoroughly, but yeah that Like Rats 7" is pretty damn awesome. thanks again man!

Requiem for a Dream, such an awesome score and one of my favorite movies (and no SS, i hadn't bought it yet, but had been wanting it since RSD. so thank you very much!!)
a compilation of some pretty cool bands including title fight, circa, tigers jaw, pity sex, pretty cool stuff. a lot of bands i hadn't listened to before
Abel- Make it Right... haven't listened to this one yet.
Tar - Handsome...  also have yet to listen to this, but always down and excited to check out new music
Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute. only got to listen to one side so far, and i'm digging it. had never listened to this band, but had heard the name on here a lot.
a really really cool photography book about a photographer moving from Birmingham AL, to Bellingham WA (i really like this book. some awesome landscapes and cool shots. i don't normally shoot landscapes myself, but i do enjoy looking through them. plus this book has so  much more too. really like it SS)
[and not picutred because i just realized i had it on my shelf] Royal Forest - Spillway... pretty chill music. but i like it. has a good sound to it.

touche amore/casket lottery - split...  really dig this, had never listened to either band. liking the touche side better though
Rise Against - ready to fall.... also awesome
Evergreen terrace - dead horses.... have not listened to this yet either
Like Rats.... this, this i like. fucking brutal thrash goodness. pretty damn awesome

my name is Oliver, i'm 27.  i live in Vegas (where the party never stops!)
 
some of my favorite bands are The Mars Volta (ultimate favorite band, and all of the stuff Omar does) The Strokes, Death From Above 1979, The Killers, Gogol Bordello, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. i like music that i can go wild to at a live show, or at least have some energy. the funnest and most memorable shows are always the ones where shit gets wild. not down for music that's too slow, although there are a few exceptions like Portishead, Chelsea Wolfe and the like. i've started to like some electronic music, not sure exactly what type, i think maybe synthwave? but stuff like Survive, FM-84, Teeel, soundtrack music that sounds like 80s synth stuff. i just don't know of too much though. same with Black Metal. i like stuff i've heard like Deafheaven, Ghost Funeral, Venom, but again, not familiar with too many bands. i like the higher pitched screaming as opposed to bands that are all deep growls (i find that so annoying). i can get down on some punk and thrash or hardcore too. i wish i knew more of like rockabilly, surf, type of stuff. i like it when i hear it at bars and stuff, but never actually sit down and listen to it. guess that's my fault. anyway, sorry if this is a damn mess.
 
and outside of music, i really like photography. everything i shoot is always on film, never really touch my digital camera. and i've gotten into instant film the past few years too. there's something still super awesome about holding a photo in your hand, watching it develop, and knowing that it's the only print like that. can't duplicate it or anything.

listening to it as i type this. i'm digging it. liking the sound over the garbage that was the previous 2 albums. i should keep listening to this more often.  
haha but yeah i feel the same way, a lot of people only really know Sex on Fire, which is why i have to explain myself. and i'm 27, got into them when Aha came out, so i hold that album as my favorite of theirs. and also heard Manhood around the same time. and really liked them. it was a good turning point in my life as far as music preferences. i went from "hard rock" like Godsmack, Disturbed, Manson, Korn etc. to i guess "alternative" or whatnot like strokes, kings of leon, death from above, yeah yeah yeahs, all that good shit.
 
and yeah i have that box set. so damn good, you're right, the vinyl sounds fucking incredible. i remember when they first came out they were $100 and i waited a few years and got one for like $40. can't believe they're as cheap as they are right now considering it's a great quality 7 disc boxset.

i liked mechanical bull. from what i recall from it, should probably give it more listens.
but you have a point. i feel like people will almost always like the albums they heard first from a band they end up really liking, i didn't like where they were headed with Only by the Night

god damn that must've been a super fucking long day!!! i was so stoked they played the Bunkhouse as i couldn't go to the Arena. couldn't believe they were playing in such a tiny venue. it was fucking great show and awesome night
